World All-Star Tour is Canceled

Post#1 » by mkwest » Wed Oct 26, 2011 5:53 am

Sources: Tour dates, details finalized

Nearly two dozen of the NBA's top stars will embark on a six-game, two-week, four-continent tour that begins Sunday in San Juan, Puerto Rico, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

The tour, dubbed the World All-Star Classic, was first reported last week by ESPN.com and has been in the works for the past three months, but terms and logistics are now finalized and an official announcement will be made by the tour's organizers on Wednesday.

Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard, Dwyane Wade and Kevin Durant will headline the roster of 18 all-star players, sources said.

The remaining 14 players will be announced Wednesday. LeBron James, Chris Bosh, Amare Stoudemire, Blake Griffin, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, Derrick Rose, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Carlos Boozer, Tyson Chandler, Steve Nash, Russell Westbrook, Kevin Love, Rajon Rondo and Chris Kaman are among the candidates.

Blake has already been rumored to be one of the stars heading out on this trip. This is the first that I've heard of Kaman mentioned. I think it would be cool if they both are able to take part in it. It'll be a good experience for both.

Blake cut his foot at the beach about a week or so ago and needed stitches. Hopefully, he's good to go.

Update
Derrick Rose and Russell Westbrook are rumored to be pulling out. Noah could be added into the mix.

I also saw their names linked to the tour. I too think it would be a good experience. Hopefully Blake's foot is healed enough so he can play.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

LeBron, Paul and Melo are the latest players to pull out. Kevin Durant is on the fence.

Could it be that the players are anticipating a deal being reached soon and that they'll need to gear up for an NBA season ( )? Is the money not what they thought it would be, or maybe it's the agents that are advising their players not to participate. LeBron, Paul & Melo are all represented by CAA/Leon Rose. Rose & Westbrook are both represented by Arn Tellem.

NBA World All-Star Classic Tour: NBA Lockout Tour

The World All-Star Classic, a basketball exhibition event, will launch this Sunday, Oct. 30 in San Juan, Puerto Rico at the Jose Miguel Agrelot Coliseum. In what will be a basketball showcase of unprecedented proportions, a collection of 14 of the most elite NBA basketball players have been secured to participate.

The World All-Star Classic has contracted Amar’e Stoudemire (Knicks), Blake Griffin (Clippers), Carlos Boozer (Bulls), Chris Kaman (Clippers), Chris Bosh (Heat), Dwight Howard (Magic), Dwyane Wade (Heat), Kevin Durant (Thunder), Kevin Garnett (Celtics), Kevin Love (Timberwolves), Kobe Bryant (Lakers), Paul Pierce (Celtics), Rajon Rondo (Celtics), and Tyson Chandler (Mavericks) to play.

As of this hour, the only official game date is in Puerto Rico. InsideHoops.com had heard that the NBA World All-Star Classic tour was expected to also have games in London, England on November 1 and 3, Macau on November 6, and Melbourne, Australia. But none of that has been confirmed yet. Hopefully the other cities will be finalized later today (Wednesday) or sometime Thursday or Friday. InsideHoops.com will post the exact schedule whenever it exists, with venue information, game times and more. Bookmark this page. We'll have all the important information posted here when it comes out.

In the NBA lockout tour, team captains will pick teams; the roster will be announced prior to the exhibition game.

LMAO @ Kaman's name being mentioned with all those superstar players, except maybe Chandler. That just shows how diluted the center position is nowadays. Hopefully Kaman is on that team, maybe it will increase his trade value. I think his value has increased with his strong play for Germany.

I'm curious if a deal will be reached soon. If it happens within the next few weeks what does it mean for this tour?
