Who will be the first Free Agent the Nets will go after?

Post#1 » by jordannets8 » Mon Oct 31, 2011 6:45 am

Looking at the available free agents, I think David West and Tayshaun Prince will be a good fit for Deron Williams replacing Kris Humphries who will be a waste of money if the nets re-sign him.. and also Travis Outlaw who was the biggest waste of money last year.. ANY OTHER IDEAS?

The Lineup/Roster will look like this:
C-Brook Lopez/ Johan Petro
PF-David West/Jordan Williams
SF-Tayshaun Prince/ Travis Outlaw/ Damion James
SG- Anthony Morrow/Marshon Brooks/ Stephen Graham
PG- Deron Williams/ Jordan Farmar/ Sundiata Gaines
looks like a playoff team and eventually the nets will trade for someone even better.. hint hint..

After Outlaw is amnesty'ed the Nets will sign Thaddeus Young to a 5 year $50 million contract

Not feeling David West. At all.

Not a big fan of Prince either. Too old, on the decline, will clog the 2012 cap, probably wants a lot more then he's worth as a player, he's still solid but he's more a name then a player.

I assume they'll go after Nene or Chandler 1st and then basically one of the amnesty guys if they'll come on the super cheap or maybe Vince Carter.

I also expect Billy to be very active on the trade front.

We'll see though, at this point I feel like the first free agent he will go after is Dwight Howard.

That would bittersweet. Bitter that we lost an entire season, sweet that we'd have D12 for the forseeable future.

I think the safest bet would be to go after Nene, especially if Outlaw is amnestied.

that is true about them being old and just being names now.. but with deron williams there passing to them i believe he'll make them look better regardless.. regardless i don't want humphries back and we need a new small foward we have the worst luck at that position

What VC is getting at is efficiency and longevity. Don't pay for a name if you don't have to.

You will not get the most bang for your buck with those players. Yes, D-Will can make just about every player, not just those guys. So imagine if you don't pay for the guys with name and only go for substance, ability, and the best talent per $ ratio. In those cases, we'll save the most money and have the best output.

Nene is not overly athletic and yet he still has an effective game that (barring injury) should remain solid for a number of years. West is more a jumpshooting PF that doesn't like to mix it up like Nene does. Given the fact that he had a torn ACL and relied somewhat a good first-step for a big man, his value is depreciated greatly. And Prince is definitely a shell of his former self.

I wouldn't say Prince is a shell of his former self he's more or less been the same player for the last 5-6 years now. Offensively he has developed a post game which he's incorporated into his playstyle these last few years, but defensively he's changed from more of a one-on-one shut-you-down guy to a team (help) defender... Might have something to do with his foot speed, but is likely more due to the fact of the players he has around him now as opposed to when the Pistons were consistently going deep into the playoffs.

Prince had an off year from 3 last year (second lowest percentage of his career: .347) but assuming that's not a trend i'd say he has a good 1-2 years left at his current level of production - if he can remain injury-free...

On a reasonable deal I could live with Prince on the Nets but he's the kind of player you'd ideally want to add once you have your core in place, on his own I don't know how much of a game-changer Prince can be, and I say that wanting a competent wing player on this squad as much as anyone else...

---

As for Vince given that he's already 34 years old (35 in January) I'm holding out hope that he'd accept a 1-year deal to be back in NJ :-)

This offseason is really about adding stop-gaps and preserving cap space until Dwight is a free agent..

VC would fit in perfect with Chicago. Too bad people are too stupid to realize it. I mean there are some people that say Jason Richardson is the better player.. c'mon.

As for us. Chandler is staying in Dallas. I'd like it if the team only went after Nene.

People just have this unreasonable hate for Carter based on that one interview he did with John Thompson on Inside the NBA:

http://youtu.be/DCSvUjaJaDw?t=5m53s

For some reason people like to claim that Vince admitted to quitting on the Raptors but if you listen to the relevant part of the video Vince Carter says no such thing.*

*The link will take you immediately to the part of the interview that Raptors fans and retards use to claim Vince Carter quit on the Raptors. If you haven't seen the whole video before I'd recommend watching it, it has this friendly back-and-forth vibe to it and Vince really comes off as differently from other NBA players...

i wouldnt want vince carter back maybe if he was the putting shows scoring 25 a game with dunks VC i would especially with D-Will passing to him.. i do prefer Nene or Chandler they will be great assistance to Lopez and Deron i just hope the nets are smarter with who they sign because after the signings last year it looks like bad luck for us..As much as i want dwight howard i really dont think he will come to us unless we trade for him and give up lopez and quite a few picks i just want to keep deron there with us and build as quickly around him as possible

I think it's Prince. He's 31 yes, but he's still a great defensive player/role player and hasn't shown any signs of declining yet. A lot like Ray Allen, he's always kept himself in great shape. Also a guy who doesn't need the ball in his hands a lot and is well known and respected around the league. I think he ends up coming relatively cheap - 3 years 18MM maybe? Outlaw is already gone and 6MM/year is still relatively cheap for a starting player. Needless to say Prince is a huge upgrade.

I expect them to go after Nene as well but for some reason I don't see him coming here. Hope I'm wrong. If they miss out the trade market is pretty much the only alternative for a starting PF or SG.

Obviously the PF position must remain flexible to take a run at Howard.

I think we'll go after Nene and Tayshaun first. There has been some Jamal Crawford talk lately too, so who knows.

Nene or Brandon Roy (amnesty)are the only free agents I would be interested in depending on their price tags.

No veterans are going to come play with the Nets...Haven't you all heard the news, Deron Williams said he is going to rent a house in New Jersey whenever the season starts because he is unsure where he is going to play next season...The Nets should trade him for young talent to grow along side Lopez...Trade him for players that actually want to stay...

Oh man, you're so right. Because any person that plays in Brooklyn would obviously want to buy a house in NJ.

Sept. 28, D.Wade: "It's something that obviously I knew was a two-year down-the-line thing because I got recruited, in a sense, by them," said Wade..."We sat down and I listened to the story of where they were going and I think they have great potential. I mean, Brooklyn is a brand. The word Brooklyn is a brand, the city, so they've got a great platform. Hopefully they do well -- not too well (laughs)."

Aug. 12, D.Howard: "I love the people of bk. Headed to the city".

Apr. 29, D-Will: "This place will be a baller’s paradise.'

Yeah, no veteran would ever want to play for the Nets. :-?
