The article goes into detail of how this would work using Brandon Roy as an example. Essentially, it lets you cut a player without their salary hurting your cap. But they still get paid by their new team plus the old team picks up the left-overs.

Do you think the Jazz will use amnesty on anyone? Okur? Jefferson? Someone else? And do you think the Jazz can benefit from another team using their amnesty? Who do you think we can have?

The problem with the Jazz letting Okur go, I doubt the bidders would pay much for Okur with his recent health history. The last three years he saw his scoring go from 17ppg to 13.5ppg to 4.9ppg. His peak was about 5-6 years ago too.

Jefferson on the other hand could see some good money since he averaged 21.5ppg 11rpg 1.8bpg over the last 25 games of the season last year. I still think it might be best to home on to him for atleast a season, to see how good Kanter and Favors will be.

Bell unfortunately wouldn't get picked up for a whole lot if he actually does, and we would be paying for most of his salary. The cap room though would be good for retaining AK if he decided to comeback.

I don't see the Jazz using amnesty on anyone. If the stretch clause is still in there then they might use that. But Raja is our only BAD contract... and it really isn't that bad.

Ya, I can't see anyone on the roster that would be worth dumping. Raja is the guy I would consider but he's not that bad of a contract and he can mentor Burks or be a piece to a trade.

I keep hearing Okur as a possible candidate but I believe he's worth keeping around as an expiring trade piece or as a mentor to Kanter.

It will be interesting to see what players get cut loose though, I'd be willing to bet that there will be some surprises out there.

If you read the article the Jazz or any other team only can use one amnesty the entire length of the new cba. This is going to be held by the Jazz FO only in desperate need. No one currently under contact is worth using that clause currently, unless there is a major injury to Jefferson or Harris then we wont see that used for a couple year down the road.

Wish we would have had that option when AKs contract a couple years because the Jazz would be a completely different team right now.

Might be a good way to upgrade talent. A bit of a risk though, we might pay Okur to not play and then not be able to get anyone we like in the amnesty draft.

My guess is we don't use the amnesty this year.

I really hope we dont try to pick up any "amnesty" players from other teams. We dont need some guy that thinks they are more then they are worth taking up playing time of our youngsters. Picking up an "amnesty" player gets us maybe an 8th seed and severely inhibits the growth of our rookies/2nd year players. If you guys didnt know, we were in rebuilding mode about 2 weeks before we let DWill go. We need to stay in rebuilding mode and let our young guys play.

Gaining experience >>>>>>>>>>>>> 8th seed in the playoffs and no draft pick next year.

i was thinking about that too. but i guess amnesty is only for players CURRENTLY under contract. after next year, there is not very many players jazz have under contract. and the players there are are not expensive. so IF the jazz use it, this would be the year. but i think we can definitely benefit from other teams using theirs, provided jazz use it too.

If it were me, I'd amnesty Bell's ass so fast his head would spin.

The Jazz, however, will probably not use it, IMO.
