Ray Allen on David West Signing

I think Allen is just now realizing that with West not signing there, Jeff Green out for the season, and Big Baby going to Orlando, they're not a favorite in the East anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if our record is better than theirs this year.

That was a quote from David West when he elected to test the free agency market. He knew he'd test the market BEFORE the 2010-11 season. I told myself where West signed would determine if he was really serious about winning. When I heard he may go to Boston, I figured ok, he may have a chance to win there. Yeah I know, KG, Ray and Pierce are getting a bit older but I wouldn't count them out TOTALLY. When I heard he was going to the Pacers, I knew it was no longer really about winning. Yes, the Pacers have a nice young team but they aren't going to win. At least not win 'big' as West puts it. This, indeed, looks like a money move. Hell, even if he went back to the Hornets I'd still say he wasn't serious about winning because the Hornets aren't ready to win anything at this time either.

I think the Pacers are going to finish ahead of the Celtics.

The Kool-Aid in Missouri is good this year

I think we'll be good, but putting us over the C's is a bit too optimistic I think.

Celtics have little to no depth and are old as dirt. I think they're 5th, maybe 6th seed this season.

This ain't about West. It is about getting good players who aren't close to retirement to lure CP3
West wouldn't make them a contender.

Wow, that's one of the most backhanded "good luck's" I've ever seen on these forums.

I take it, you're a fan of the concept that if a team is good, they should always stay good, and the teams that are bad are always bad, with no chance to rebuild or turn things around. Big fan of the idea of every team being a farm team for the Lakers, Knicks, and Celtics, huh?

David West said the Pacers have a really nice young core, and that his job is to come in and provide leadership and guidance. It took Tyler Hansbrough less than a second to accept this scenario. I'm telling you I feel a special bond developing between them.

Regadless, why would David want to go to a team loaded with bigs (JGreen was healthy), if it was about the money he would have accepted 3 yrs 29 million instead of 2/20. Obviously, he is a starter on a team that desperately needs a player with his abilities. With that said, his presence alone could be the difference, and he knows it.

Speaking of the NBA's farm-systems, I absolutely love seeing LAL fans cry about Stern's unwillingness to give them CP3. As if Pau, Artest, Malone, Odom, Butler, the 'Glove, Shaq, and Kobe were not already gifted. What do these people expect? The only time LAL had to build a team ( after showtime), they sucked. The irony is that the league grew rapidly when the Lakers were average. I don't know where Stern got this notion that the league needs a stacked team in LA.

New York, unlike LA and Miami, actually gave away a lot to get to where they are. Same with the Clippers.

The Celtics roster after Rondo & the 35 year olds is Jermaine O'Neal, Chris Wilcox, Brandon Bass, Keyon Dooling, Avery Bradley, Marquis Daniels, Sasha Pavlovic, JaJuan Johnson, E'Twaun Moore.

Bass & Wilcox are solid role players, but that's about it. Daniels & JO are severely injury prone and not very good anymore anyway. Dooling & Pavlovic are god awful. The rest are back end draft talent.

We should be better.

Pretty much echo what Scoot said. Boston used to suck total ass. They're not going to be good just because they're Boston or because they have veteran players that have been in the playoffs, or because they're good at bullying small white guys and faking injuries. They've got one high end, cost effective talent under contract for next year and they've done nothing but try to trade him two years running.

Neither CP3 or West wanted to go there, and I probably wouldn't either.

That would be pretty weird for a Hornets fan.

Might as well stop being a fan if you think your team is never going to be of any relevance.

Ah, I assumed he was a Celtics fan.

So, I'm more confused now. Did he want David West to re-sign in New Orleans? Wouldn't that be a worse team (minus Chris Paul) than Indy?

He is admitting his Hornets will likely not contend in the next few years, just as he doesn't see the Pacers getting there in the near future.

Here is what David had to say about this:

"What they're dealing with up there is a lot deeper than David West," he said after practice Thursday. "When I was figuring out what I was going to do, everybody that knows me knows I'm a thought person. I don't rush to judgment and the decisions I make are well-thought-out. This was a well-thought-out decision on my part.

"There's a reason why I'm in Indiana and not anywhere else. This team is young and deep with some really good pieces. And it's deep."
