for SP Chris Volstad.

cubs are eating 15 of the 18mill in 2012.

why couldn't AA or matter fact any other gm get on this?

Wow pretty good deal for Miami. I mean Zambrano isn't the same player by any means, but for the Cubs to eat up that much of his contract is pretty crazy.

Well it's fine for MIA, although with all the money invested in that roster recently and Hanley already bordering on insubordinate, I'm not sure I'd risk my team chemistry on Zambrano (this guy is easily the ZBo of pitchers). For Epstein, he had to go at whatever cost, simple as that. If he's paying Volstad the same salary, getting similar production, and knowing that headcase can't mess up his team, he calls himself lucky the mess he stepped into wasn't worse. Would he be better off eating only 6-8m, then having to sign a FA to fill the spot 'cause he got a C- prospect back in return? I don't think so.

Still, there is a lot of upside for MIA, I just don't like the downside even at 3m, 'cause if it gets to the point they cut him, my guess is a lot of the damage will already be done. I don't much believe in idea of lockerroom cancers label, but mostly 'cause it's over applied. Still, some guys really do have the potential to mess your entire season up and Zambrano is one of 'em.

If there's anyone who can manage Zambrano it's Ozzie Guillen.

I like the trade for Miami though. With Philly, Atlanta, and Washington (especially if they sign Fielder) in the division, it's worth the risk.

Zambrano has a full no trade clause. Only wanted to play for Ozzie Guilen.

If Guilen can keep him under control then this is a great deal for Miami.

And he had Epstein between a rock and a hard place, Theo had no leverage at all.

If a team was willing to eat $15 of the $18M salary, there has to be some serious issues that occured with Zambrano which means there's no way I want him anywhere near our young core. I don't get how a couple of you are questioning why AA wasn't involved.
