Clippers now on Dwight Howard

Post#1 » by mkwest » Mon Jan 16, 2012 11:04 pm

NEW YORK — Dwight Howard now has a fourth team on his wish list: The Los Angeles Clippers.

SheridanHoops.com learned exclusively Monday that Howard recently expanded his list of preferred future destinations, adding the Clippers to a list that already included the Nets, the Mavericks and the Lakers.

“He’s been watching them a lot. He’s intrigued by the Clippers,” said the source, who is privy to the trade talks that have taken place between all of the aforementioned teams.

But the source said the most likely scenario that would land Howard in Lob City would be an offseason sign-and-trade deal.

If Dwight gets traded anywhere but Jersey, Deron goes to either the Mavs or Lakers via trade...

Your obsession with the Nets is disturbing.

The only thing we can offer is Blake, and I sure as hell would not like to offer our superstar on a rookie contract for Howard.

Unless they were funneling some picks back at us.

Actually I'm not quite sure what your referring to but I am sure its not as disturbing as your hate for Kobe...

For us, it's nice to fantasize and it's great that some of the best players in the league actually consider us as a destination that they would want to play at. However, a mid-season trade is very unlikely. Maybe if we could have gotten Paul with Bledsoe instead of Gordon, a trade with Orlando for Dwight could have been more feasible. It still would have been a long shot if we had to take on Turk.

Our only realistic chance of acquiring him would be in the offseason. Orlando would gladly take Blake in return, but we're not moving him nor are we moving Paul. I have heard that the salary cap was going to increase to $61M this summer and I've heard that it's going to stay the same. If it does in fact increase to $61M, then we'd have $11.8M in cap space (did not account for roster charges yet) if we used the amnesty clause on Mo. In order to free up the additional salary to max out Howard, we would have to either do a S&T with Orlando by shipping out Jordan and maybe Bledsoe or we would have to trade DJ to a team that was willing to absorb his salary (in addition to amnestying Mo) to sign him outright.

There's certainly a possibility that we could acquire him, but it's a very slim chance. Fegan would have to be heavily involved in the maneuvering process that would be necessary to make it possible.

There's a slight chance, but I'm not one to be holding out for anything to happen. If its possible via a sign and trade for him and amnestying Mo Williams, then go for it, if not, the it is what it is. Continue to improve the team, and move on.

Adding to D12 to this team would make us deadly with a capital D.

Another possible explanation is that his agent and Orlando are trying to force the Lakers to pull the trigger on a Bynum/Gasol for Howard/Turkoglu swap. They know that neither the Laker organization or the Laker fans want to see the Clippers end up with both Paul and Howard.

This year's deadline is going to be quite the adventure. Somebody's going to end up being happy, somebody's going to be heartbroken and others may be encouraged.

og15 has it right for our perspective imo, pursue it if it comes to us otherwise leave it alone.

I wouldnt trade Blake for Dwight. Dwight is so inconsistent. He get's his numbers, but he will have a 20/20 game then next night score 6 and grab & 8 boards.

The only thing we could offer is something like Blake/DJ for D12/Ryan Anderson, and that's very unlikely. If we don't give up Blake, there is no reason ORL would take any offer from us, since I'm sure they could at least get Bynum from the Lakers.

LMAO yeah you can keep Blake. I wouldn't trade Howard for him either

Seriously though, I doubt the credibility of this source. Just sounds like another unsubstantiated rumor.

If you build it, they will come.

The team finally began to draft right and it has paid off so far. I just like that we've become a team that is added to the conversation (in general, not specifically to Howard). Rather than just being ignored because "It's the Clippers." During the whole LeBron coverage, we had the same amount of money that everyone else had, but were constantly left out of the articles and reports. It took forever, but things are finally changing for the positive.

Dwight is definitely better than Griffin, but realistically it won't happen because of what Griffin means to this franchise. He single-handedly turned this franchise around. He's the face of the Clippers. He's happy here. He's young. He does a lot on the court and off the court (gym rat, positive energy-- bounces off other teammates). Griffin is just not gonna be traded.

And no way will a lowball offer beat the Lakers'/Nets' offer. Interesting report though.

If I were Neil Oshley, I wouldn't tinker w/ Roster moves, extending contracts or paying the Luxury Tax until I saw the big picture. I think its great D12 has put the Clips in his pool of teams, but I think that it is just a ploy to determine where he will go. If he really wants to be a Clipper, he would sign(not a Max Deal) as a Free Agent and make sure there was enough $$$$$ to sign the other players.
I'm not taking D12's demands too seriously, if he were to come, FANTASTIC; if not, we will find some other piece(s) to make the Clips a Championship caliber team.

Return to Los Angeles Clippers
