Does Beasley care about not playing?

Post#1 » by thethey » Mon Jan 23, 2012 11:53 pm

I sometimes get the impression watching him on the bench that he's ok with being out. I know his desire has been questioned before, and I can't help but get the feeling he's sort of milking this ankle injury.

It's the pressure/expectations that kill him imo and only when he's out is that weight lifted.

Your thoughts?

He came back from his injury too soon last season, and that just lead to more injuries. They're probably just being careful with it.

"When it first happened, honestly, I wanted to play the next game," he said. "Sit out one or two games maybe, not 9 or 10. I'm going to get it 100 percent. "

I think that's true but that doesn't answer the question of whether Beasley cares. I think it's all about external expectations with him. I just don't see him as the type that is itching to get back. Maybe I'm just projecting a bit.

About a week or so ago someone asked him about his return and he said if it was up to him he would be playing right now. That alone tells me he is willing to play.

There is no doubt in my mind that its the medical staff holding him back considering how many times he injured his ankle last season coming back too early. It does seem like he has been out for a long time though.

I would say Beasley probably cares about playing as much as any NBA player in the entire NBA.

Yeah i know that's what he says, but we're back to expectations again. Isn't that a response straight from the book?

We saw last year that hes not one to milk injuries. In fact, hes probably the opposite, willing to risk reinjury just to play, like he did so many times last year.

Really? Look at guys like Kobe and D Rose and try to tell me Beasley cares as much as they do. That just seems false.

In any of those cases did he come back before fully cleared to play though?

I dunno why I'm so down on Beas. Maybe you guys are right.

Did I miss that?

At most, you might be able to say that about some defensive stops, but you don't get to be an elite nba scorer by being lazy on the floor, or in practice.

I believe the confusion of fans right now is because all decisions are being made on this very unusual 66 game schedule. No one knows what to expect regarding this compacted journey. They don't wanna overuse anyone and are taking things more cautiously than in previous season.

I guess it's just what I'm reading in his body language, mostly subtleties, but I think I'm onto something.

I can generally read people pretty well. Sometimes I'm dead wrong too, just my two cents.

Ive really never questioned Beasley's desire to play and to win since he's been here. From what i can tell, he truly cares.

It is closer to the truth than him not caring about sitting out.

As others have said Beasley came back time after time last season on a hobbled ankle when he should have been out for a long time to get back to 100%. Beasley is always trying to prove himself whether it be continuing to take shots after he has missed a bunch or trying to come back and play on a bad ankle.

The team is holding him out of the games and if he looks happy on the bench it is because the team overall is happier. Last year they were losing all the time and had a jackass for a coach. I know I'd be much more relaxed sitting on the bench this year compared to last year.

Body language? Consistent production? Playing hard at both ends of the floor?

I think those are all pretty good indicators of desire.

That happens when is really down on himself and his head is not in the game. It never lasts the whole game and does not apply to his desire get back in uniform at all.

I don't see why so many are quick to label him a headcase, but never think to attribute this to a lack of desire. Is he just insane? I think he's probably a little depressed and lacks real desire as a result.

All those relate to his youth and immaturity, not his desire to be on the court. How do you take a leap from that to him not desiring to play period?
