Shane Battier Sucks

Post#1 » by Rebuilding Year » Wed Feb 8, 2012 2:42 am

Can't run the floor. Can't make layups. Can't shoot threes. Hit maybe one of those goofy baseline runners all year. Can't jump for rebounds. Gets blasted guarding the ball. Can't recover after collapsing. Gives his man too much cushion and gets shot over all day. Okay, so he gets a charge once in a blue moon.

He sucks. Bench him. I don't understand it. If we're going to have these guys as assistant coaches like Juwan, the locker room presence doesn't need to see the hardwood. I don't even understand why we signed him when James Jones gives you the exact same thing and he's already on the roster.

So you think Spo played Battier over JJ against Bryant for no reason? Not because Battier is a great defender and shut down Kobe in that game? JJs defense (if there is any) is awful. He can draw some chargers, thats about it. He can't guard anyone. Battier wasn't brought here to play great offense, it was completely for defense. He started the year off rough, and then had a nice streak, and now seems to be in another slump. Hell come out of it. But again we don't need him to score that much, just play solid defense.

Battier sucks rotating... let's keep it real here.

He excels 1vs1 though. He was key against Kobe, and he will be key in the future against players like Melo, Durant, maybe even chasing Ray Allen.

I'm getting sick of people talking about Battier's defense. I know he's good. But he hasn't really made up for his shooting. If JJ gets hot, his defense would cancel out.

I haven't even seen a Battier charge in forever in awhile either.

But I want the guy to get his stroke back and contribute to this team. He had a spurt where he looked back, but has gone back to being terrible. He's almost dead last in the whole NBA in FG%...

Battier was supposed to be JJ with superior defense on paper.

Defensively he's been pretty good so far (don't forget that clutch 4th quarter block he had against the Hawks) but his offense has been atrocious. I think we need to give him more time before we jump to conclusions.

If we need to start trashing a Heat player we need to focus our attention toward Joel Anthony. Dude just sucks all around.

In 22 MPG: 3.5 PPG, 4.2 RPG (an IMPROVEMENT since last season :nonono:), .1 APG, and 1 BPG.

But everyone knows that JJ is in there just for the 3 and stick to him on the 3 point line, knowing that he can make his own shot or dribble much. I don't think he brings too much to the team in that aspect. Don't get me wrong I love JJ and his shot is great, but unless he's wide open he can take it. Maybe split the minutes between JJ and Battier is a good idea.

I agree Battier can't rotate, but when his guy has the ball he makes it difficult to shoot. I guess with all the rotating the Heat are forced into lately JJ could help some. I don't get why he's put at the end of the bench again, or Harris. I think they should both get some of Battiers minutes. But not playing Battier at all is a bad idea.

When's the last time JJ even got a shot off? He's played 8 minutes (in 2 games) since 1/24 against the Cavs, and he didn't shoot once. In that game against the Cavs, he was 2-3 with 7 points in 16 minutes. Is that kind of production worth the sacrifice on defense?

At least with Shane you can say you're sacrificing the offense in order to lockdown an opposing wing that's giving you problems. It was worth it to throw him on Hamilton to give Wade a break, or on Iggy, etc.... With Miller, you know you're getting comparable scoring to JJ, elite rebounding and solid playmaking. JJ just doesn't bring enough dimensions to the game to justify cutting Shane's minutes for him.

I think Spo's having a hard enough time finding minutes for UD, Shane and Mike that he can't be bothered trying to shoehorn JJ in there. JJ is 3rd string now. He's a garbage time asset, and we need to accept that. Ethan Skolnick has been commenting lately about this obsession with the guys at the end of the bench. There's a reason they're at the end of the bench. PEACE.

you know, I thought he looked good at the beginning of the year. Then he just went back to old Joel....

the thing is, no matter how much we really complain, he is an all-time Spo favorite. He is never going to go away. UNLESS real Centers come on this team. That is going to take a long time.

 Give the guy a break, he's in the worst shooting slump of his career and he's been working in the gym to not only hit open shots, but maintain the stamina required of a Heat player.

seems like when someone new comes to this team, they are in their worst shooting slump of their career :nonono:

And it really sucks because even an AVERAGE center would be a huge improvement over Joel at this point. I guess that's why we're all so desperate for Pittman to quickly develop or for Curry to get back into shape.

His defense has been good but his offense has been atrocious.

Just don't play him together with Anthony and Haslem (we trotted that out without Wade for a few minutes before going small and bringing Miller in for Anthony) play him with Bosh/Lebron/Wade.

Also don't bring him in when we need offense. For whatever reason he is sometimes brought in when we can't buy a bucket.

He shouldn't play when there's no real 2/3 to guard, like tonight.

No, this is a big part of my problem! He just stands too far away and gets shot over because he knows he doesn't have the lateral speed to dive and recover on the "string"

Yet another elitist that assumes a person's realgm join date is the ultimate determining factor in terms of a fan's loyalty to their team or their overall basketball knowledge.

Such a shame really. :nonono:

Heat should play Harris and JJ more the next couple of nights on this long road trip and give Battier some rest. He needs it badly.

As if I registered during the lockout because I'm a wagon jumper.
