MANILA, Philippines - Newly crowned IBF lightflyweight champion Johnriel Casimero, business manager Sammy Gello-ani and trainer Christopher Tepura survived a riot after hometown fans went berserk in the wake of local hero Luis Lazarte’s knockout loss at Club Once Unidoes, Mar del Plata, Argentina last Friday night.

New York referee Eddie Claudio stopped the fight early in the 10th round with Lazarte defenseless and Casimero raining hard blows to the head. Lazarte was down twice in the previous round and once in the 10th. Before the ring announcer stepped onto the ring to call the official time, debris flew in from irate fans who couldn’t accept Lazarte’s defeat. Water bottles, chairs and hard objects were thrown at the Filipinos by suspected members of Lazarte’s truckers union. One fan entered the ring wearing a green vest with the words “Camioneros-Peronista” and attacked Gello-ani with punches to the head. All hell broke loose as security guards were outnumbered by fans who vented their ire on Casimero, Claudio, Gello-ani and Tepura. Even Casimero’s American cornerman Sean Gibbons of Top Rank Promotions wasn’t spared from the physical abuse.

Security guards hid Casimero under the ring for 30 minutes while fans were led out of the arena. Gello-ani said he took a few hits on the head but was unhurt. Claudio was treated in a hospital for a busted mouth.

Damn I didn't know Filipinos were violent like that. Always seem like quiet, decent, hard working and keep to themselves kind of people.

This happened in Argentina. Not in the Philippines.

Holy Hell ! And people think Americans are douche bags. Reminds me of people in Montreal or Toronto rioting last yr or the yr before, when their hockey team lost in playoffs.

That was Vancouver last year when they lost to Boston in the Stanley Cup finals. Though Montreal has had there fair share of riots too... They had there famous Richard Riot in the 50's, and they also rioted in 08 I think when Montreal went out in the 2nd round... up in Canada, especially in a hotbed like Montreal, they take there hockey seriously.

This one certainly looked pretty intense too. I like how the guy hides under the ring until the fans are led out of the building. Smart idea really. I was wondering watching it where the guy was supposed to go.

That guy in green is a damn dick. WTF? Why does the Flip boxer cower to him and his kiddie punches? Knock him out. The loser's corner seems to take a punch through the ropes at the Flip as well. What ****.
Hi love, bye love, I will miss my love.

Yeah, it was Montreal or Toronto, I can't remember which. Or Calgary or Moosejaw or Halifax or something. Or was it Saskatoon? Nah, nah, spykelee's right, it was Ottawa. One of those **** places, a lot of hoser Canadians, that's the point.

Pro boxers can't fight outside of the ring.

The riots here in Montreal are just dumb... Everyone knows there's gonna be one, whether they win or lose....

Downtown is right near Burgandy, a place where most of the crime happens...

It really isn't about the sport, it's more about stealing alcohol and sneakers.

All it takes is one of those clowns to throw a beer bottle at a store and done.

The police though have controlled it the past year.. Lotta tear gas and those grenades that shoot out little rubber bullets forgot the name, it hurts like hell though.

What happened here was cause the Argentinean boxer lost, the fans felt that he shouldn't got pissed and tried to fight the boxer lol...

I know this happened at a boxing match, but it really has nothing to do with Boxing or Mixed Martial Arts.

And few of the posts in this thread are even about the event.

So, no need for it to be here any longer.
