Concerned About Amare

Post#1 » by Handledatruth » Wed Feb 15, 2012 3:30 am

I think I saw three instances tonight when Amare went to the hole, had a lane, and attempted a layup instead of dunk. Last year those scenarios would have been one handed flushes. It's really starting to concern me. Add that to him getting blocked in the game a bunch of times and its really looking like a problem. I don't think his game will translate like LJ's did. He's still missing some fundamentals. I hope I'm wrong and its just that his timing is off.

I felt that sarcasm. It matters because his game relies on being explosive and he doesn't look explosive off the floor. Its the same with rebounds and blocks as well. He's not springing like he was last year. If its Zach Randolph or someone then no worries, but Amare without explosion...

Its not the issue of not dunking, its just that he forces too much. He's gotta use his body more or just simply kick it out if he doesn't have the shot.

I agree. There's no denying he's lost significant lift on his jump. He just can't elevate like he used to. Maybe the extra 20 pounds is compounding that. Idk.

His jumper is broken. He clearly has lost some lift. I hate to say this but you're in denial if you don't think he's starting to decline.

I think it will take him until the end if the season to next year to get his full pop back. That back muscle pull shutdown his basketball workouts most of the summer. 1st game back from brothers death as well. He'll be ok.

He isn't the guy you'd build a team around, and is probably getting more money than he deserves... But that's why you have Melo on the team. He'll be alright.

Ok throw out the dunking and he's still not finishing as strong as he used to. The man was an automatic "and one" last year, and now I only hear him yell it while struggling to get back on defense after his close up miss. I don't know, something's off.

Look how fast he gets to the rim and up. Its not happening this year.

Well of course Amare isnt the specimen he used to be, but hes still an above average athlete. His jumper has been making up for his athletic decline but thats been on and off. This was his first game back so give him some slack, but yea I do think Amare's decline has a chance of getting ugly. Still you hope LIn prolongs his career a little bit.

decline or in the transition stage of adapting to what he can do

amar'e is lucky he developed a mid range game and post moves after his first surgery instead of relying on lob passes(ala griffin)

it's like a pitcher who used to throw 96 mph gas but now throws 93 mph, he has to adapt to what they can now do.

i'm sure amar'e will find a way to be effective

I just hope we didn't pay 100 million for only 1 year of brilliance. I was expecting at least 2 or 3 solid years.

he still put in 20+ and 9.. especially in the 2nd half he turned it on. He'll be fine. If he really did gain 20 lbs of weight he needs to shed that asap

The health excuse is addressed in my thread. Not that he needs to be Blake Griffin-ing everybody but I'm not buying that excuse.

Here it is guys: we can't win with him on this team. Accept the fact that he's been all talk this season, has barely contributed in a positive manner (if at all), and we're going to need to get rid of him to improve as a team.

yep. or just bench him. mike should do that, and the front office should have his back on that decision. we're a better team without him.
