Revisiting New Orleans trade

Now that the Wolves pick is all but guaranteed to be between #12 and #18 New Orleans doesn't have much to lose by helping us.

So let's have them help us.

Minnesota trades:
Derrick Williams, Darko Milicic, Michael Beasley, Wesley Johnson, Wayne Ellington, Luke Ridnour, Utah and Memhpis #1 picks

New Orleans trades:
Emeka Okafor, Eric Gordon, Trevor Ariza, Marco Bellineli

MIN
Pekovic/Okafor/Randolph
Love/Okafor/Tolliver
Ariza/Webster
Godon/Bellineli/Lee
Rubio/Barea/Lee

Why for Minnesota:
Who wants to face that team in the playoffs?
We get 2 solid SGs, a good defensive PF/C off the bench, and a veteran wing. Yes, 2 of the 4 are overpaid....but who cares.

Why for New Orleans:
They suck balls. If they don't trade their veterans for young talent, cap space, and picks they aren't doing it right.

Who says no and why?

The difference now is that Pek is going cost a lot to resign and Gordon has been injured all year.

Could we afford to resign Pek with Love, Gordon, and Okafor all making over 12mil and JJ+Ariza combining for another 12mil?

I think so. I probably should switch Barea for Ridnour in the least, as his contract is shorter.
I'll definitely add in Jason Smith for a cheap bench big to Minnesota (3 years, $7.5 mil)

But dropping Darko, Wes Johnson, Beasley, and Webster adds a lot of cap space to cover the new additional salaries.

I'm starting to think this works better with New Orleans keeping Gordon actually. I'll redraw my new idea here shortly.

It's hilarious reading this board as a hornets fan.. You guys think the team is shipping out, has no support, don't want any of our players. Here in Louisiana we have plenty of support for the hornets. A new owner is going to be announced in 3 weeks and you people are crazy if you think we are trading Eric Gordon. He is the new face of this franchise and the general thinking around here is he is practically untouchable. The front office has already Said we are going to build a team around Gordon and e has said he is ready for the opportunity. We are in tank mode but we're not the timberwolves door-mat.

Simply put... NO!

Why for Wolves:
Jack for Barea sheds some years, making it easier for the Wolves to make long term commitments to other players.
Bellineli is cheap and an effective SG/#4 option (compared to what we have anyway).
And Okafor is a much better long term option than we have currently.

Why for New Orleans:
Drop Okafor's contract
Pick up 1st round pick
Give Webster/Randolph an extended trial
Jack is a combo guard, and Barea is probably a better fit there at PG.

Gordon for Williams makes sense to me. Not exactly the biggest position of need for N.O. but decent value for an r.f.a.

No way they do that. And even for us it's very risky considering Gordon's recent injury history.

Considering Eric Gordon was the biggest piece NOH received in the trade, there's no way they trade him for anything less than a proven star (nor will they let him walk considering he's a RFA). Derrick Williams isn't enough.

What about:

T-Wolves gets: Gordon, Ariza, Okafor
Hornets get: Williams, Beasley, Webster, B. Miller, Utah 1st, Memphis 1st

Timberwolves gets all the missing pieces in their team. Good defense on all players and the SG they have been looking for. Hornets needs to rebuild, considering Gordon wants to leave, and they also have some nice young players players in Vasquez, Aion etc. Williams is a 2nd Pick in the draft and has a nice reasonable contract. Beasley has a team option, if he returns to form, while Webster and B Miller will be gone after the season, effectively erasing the huge salary of Okafor going the other way.

Considering Gordon and Okafor will be out for some time anyway, it won't hurt the Minnesota 1st that Hornets have. It may even help them get a better spot, only for Minnesota to become a play-off team next season when Gordon and Okafor are fit. Ariza and Okafor are starting to get old, and are on bad contracts.

Its tough to say what N.O. would & wouldn't do. I'd guess they didn't sign him long term because having his number on the books for 4-5 years could be viewed as a liability to a potential buyer and putting off giving him a long term deal buys them time to get the team sold without losing his RFA rights.

Martell Webster + Derrick Williams for Eric Gordon.
