I come in peace...question from Rival fan.
Hello all. Full disclosure I am a Knick fan. You guys are playing terrific basketball.
Just a question: What do u think of Chris Bosh's defense and overall play. Do u guys like him?

I've always been a huge proponent of Bosh's defense and its impact on the team. He just gives us a huge amount of flexibility and versatility, with his size letting him affect shots down low and his quickness allowing him to make great rotations and always recover on the pick and roll.
I've got a ton of respect for the way he has subjugated his ego on this team and done some of the dirty work. His rebounding still isn't where you might want it to be, but there is enough rebounding on this team and especially from the smaller spots in LeBron and Wade that it really isn't hurting us.
But yeah, defensively, love this guy. He gets so underrated for his "soft" rep, but how often do you actually see a guy bully Bosh down low for scores? MAYBE once every 10 games or so.

It's fun to poke jokes at him, (ex. The Homo Bostrich, etc) I must admit but I love him with the Heat both on and off the court. Dude seems to be a fun guy to play with and I will forever appreciate him.
I just hope one day, if we win multiple titles - Bosh at leasts bags a finals MVP award down the line.

More concerned with his offense than his defense to be honest.

I like the guy off the court, and he is a really good player. around 4-6 top PF. BUT - his playing style and overall softness makes him not a great fit for us IMO. if we can get a Chandler/Noa/Dalembert type Center next to him, his weaknesses wouldnt hurt us and it wouldnt bug me. but to me he's not physical enough to carry a Championship team's front court by himself.
yea, we really need a big C.

he's much better this season - it appears the three learned how to play to each other's strengths
people think of him as a C, but he is a PF
quite happy with him

Re: I come in peace...question from Rival fan.
Bosh is good on defense. I'm wondering, are you trying to compare Amare and Bosh because Amare was bad defensively last night?
(edit : I saw a whole thread on Amare and his defense just now, he didn't lose the game for the Knicks lol. TO's and bad shooting did. Hornets 28 points off TO's... Lin 9 TO's.. it happens.)
Bosh contests shots, depending on the player, he can be alright 1vs1, he gets blocks every now and again. When he hedges no guard can even blow by him lol.
He can be active on the floor. He fits this Heat's system actually.
I think he was worse last year, coming from the Raptors and finally coming to a defensive-minded team. He would just stand there and not do anything. But now he is constantly moving with the defense.
He tries out there atleast.
His rebounding though can be frustrating. He does not box out. Lately though he's been getting offensive rebs and jumping up for rebs lol. He has gotten double digit rebounds the past few games without Bogut and Varejao in the mix....
Go to 5:56 (or you can watch the whole video, it is funny lol but it shows Bosh's activity). You can see how active Bosh was there. In the video you can also see him staying infront of guards, having them stay on the perimeter. Then at times he would go back to the middle and go from there. At 5:56 he hedges and keeps his man infront, and then he goes to try and contest a shot.
There has not been a game where I felt like we were doing bad or losing because of Bosh's defense at all. Now the system and giving up 3 pointers, that's different. Bosh is also quite athletic.
I actually forgot what game it was, I think it was against the Cavs when he scored 17 points in the 4th, but he would yell out things defensively.
I'm very satisfied with Bosh this year defensively.
Overall play? I like him. He just needs to drive more to the basket. Right now his offense isn't very good, and it concerns me. He was killing everyone when it was just LBJ and him alone. I don't blame Wade for Bosh's struggles right now, I guess he's in a slump. Just needs to get there stronger. I mean at the end of games, I don't mind him being the Center. Having a big man out there who can hit free throws at C is so crucial.

Bosh's defense is better than his offense IMO. And his offense is really good. He's just solid all around player, one of the best defensive players at his position.

Bosh isn't going to block you a lot of shots. Steal the ball a lot. He rebounds okay, but doesn't always box his man out. That said, his defense really IS better than his offense. His rotations, and pick and roll defense is a huge reason why we're so good defensively.
Also offensively he's the perfect player to add to Wade and Lebron. And as he expands his range to the 3 point line, he'll be even more of a problem. He is so money from the top of the key with that jumper, it's crazy. I'm always suprised when Chris misses a shot or a free throw.

Its all pretty much been said. Not a prolific shotblocker, but will surprise you every now and then with some nice ones. He really helps us with his foot speed and hedging on pick-and-rolls, which are very demanding in our defense. He showed in the Olympics '08 he can be a very solid defender when not in the Raptors system. I remember one of the things that gave me hope he could come to Miami was his constant complaining about their D.

Love everything he does on and off the court. He's a cerebral guy, and gets misunderstood. I think he understands his role in the Big3, and so he only pours it on when he has to. DefenseWins made note that he's recently been jumping for rebounds. He didn't show that kind of intensity until the playoffs last year. You'd see it for a random game here or there, but he's clearly taking it easy when he's not needed to play a big role. I'm fine with that if it keeps him and his knees healthy for when it counts the most.
His defense is vastly underrated. It's funny because when we signed him, a big nitpick was that he was gonna be a defensive liability, but he's a key cog on the defense. He's not necessarily the anchor, but he's the big piece that makes the system work, because coming down the stretch, he's the center who hedges. His pnr defense is really impressive. He uses his length and quickness very well.
The only complaint might be that Bosh is the biggest coaster of the 3. When he's taking a game off, he really takes it off. PEACE.

Re: I come in peace...question from Rival fan.
Bosh is the man, offensively he can score on high pick and rolls or draw a foul on the baseline; he's really good to have out there with our 2nd unit (although the 2nd unit itself can be frustrating to watch at times). He shows signs of toughness at times that fire us up, be it an offensive rebound leading to a slam or an aggressive drive to the hoop that leads to a basket and a foul.
Defensively he's great great on rotations, and is quick enough to hedge and get back to his coverage; he's greatly improved his activity on that side of the floor. his rebounding could be a little better, but then again we have some pretty good rebounders in Wade, Lebron, MM and UD out there sharing the sugar (so to speak).
I think I can speak for a few of us when I say we thoroughly enjoy having him as the third option on our team.

His defense works really well for us. I have a lot of respect for him. Doesn't really bitch about the shots he gets (He could easily avg 20+ if either James/Wader were not here) plays great D and just acts like a stand up guy.
Perfect fit actually.

Bosh is the perfect fit for this team... Obv way better than Boozer and Amare (who were both available in FA 2010).
He has a great personality too.. there was a really good article written on him last year. Can't seem to find it though.
