Starters vs Bench

Post#1 » by kevin44 » Fri Mar 2, 2012 7:03 pm

We all know we are the cheapest team with the lowest salary cap in the NBA. I think we have a bigger problem than we think when it comes to "fixing" this team. My point is the starting five are making 18.2 mil vs the bench that makes 30.2 mil. I know a lot of people will defend Petrie & The Maloofs, but I believe this shows how poorly run our team really is. Chris Paul makes almost as much as the five guys he went against last night.

Ima be dissapointed if we don't make a blockbuster trade. With the Maloofs spending 70 million on the arena, do we have any money for free agents? Or trades? Im confused with all this cap space thing

Chris Paul isn't on a rookie contract, like four of our starters.

Exactly, your also considering that more than few guys on the bench that are making a portion of that money won't be here next year, or might be amnestied. Also, many of their deals come off the books when it comes time for extensions and such, no big. The better way to look at it is how how long the contracts are and how money is tied up into each individual position.

Bingo. Rookie contracts pretty much fully explain this (not that I'm a big fan of Outlaw or Salmons).
