Here's the place to brag on past successes Give them a spotlight where they won't be forgotten. Not that you'd let them get forgot anyway. But here you can post all your toldja-so's. Named after the bi-polar bear hisself, master of the form.

Since it's moot later today. Might as well post the state of the doc as of right now. I'm fine with our options with a top 3 pick, but beyond that, I'd be happiest to open up the bidding for teams trying to move up, get a proven commodity (or more than one) lower down and a future pick in a deeper year.

4. Trade. Kemba Walker if nothing decent. I'd have no problem selecting the star PG from a championship team as a solid back-up. I suspect the team says otherwise, but it just seems to me it only helps push John Wall to improve to add a savvy cunning alternate on the bench. And depth is a very good thing, when you look at our injury record.

5. Trade. Kawhi Leonard if nothing good.

6. Trade. Bismack, I suppose. If you reach on upside, then at least take the physical freak with a defensive mindset. Just don't expect much early and don't get too excited about the physiometrics, Obinna Ekeze and Benjamin Eze (who? exactly...) had similar wingspan for the height.

I only put him this high because, much as the skeptic in me wants to dislike the hype, I like his panache in the clips I see. Mostly in his body language, vocal leadership, aggrieved determination. (The Loopy wingnut says I like his mental assay as well as his physical, will post the metas at some point, but the thumbnail sketch: same as wifeydoc, Day Of Language, technical skills, can learn anything if they put their mind to it).

But mostly because he's fun to watch. He doesn't move like anyone I've ever seen. This is a Gheorghe Muresan pick for me. Every minute he's on the court I'll be watching him regardless of his +/- or win/loss. So for entertainment value any highlight plays he makes will count triple in my emotional box score. Even though I suspect he'll kinda suck for a while.

7. Trade. Reach on Chris Singleton. Hope Faried is still there at 18. I suspect other teams will take the 3 and D guy before the rebounding dynamo.

This year especially you can't get too fussy about value for draft position. If you get a player who earns minutes for you and succeeds then who cares where he was drafted. No need to overthink it. Where I'm at today.

That was thepre-lotto version. Pretty sure I had Valanciunas later on, though maybe the fact that he was staying in Europe dumped him from my list.

Pretty much blasted any trade Ernie made in his time here. So other than the Butler & Hinrich trades, I've been right regarding every other miserable move.

On draft day '09, suggested we swap picks for Minny, let them select Rubio and draft Curry & Lawson at 6 & 17. Then draft Blair if he's available in the 2nd round.

Pined hard for Greg Monroe as the ideal trade up target in the '10 draft, when many questioned his talent. Said there's no way someone that skilled & smart could fail.

Predicted the Jamison trade would turn us into a poor man's Milwaukee Bucks from the early 90s (Robinson, Allen & Cassell) and that any success would be fleeting.

I still don't think giving Arenas that contract was the wrong move. It turned out bad, but I think it was the right decision. Yes he was hurt, but thousands of athletes have had similar injuries and returned at 100%. Gil's surgery and recovery and reinjuries sucked, but them's the breaks. (Now, I'll grant you that maybe the Wizards should have taken their medical staff into account, but I think that's a separate issue.)
The Wizards offered Arenas the max in part to make sure Gil knew they were willing to pay to keep him -- remember that Golden State offered him max money. Then Arenas "gave back" something like $20 million over the life of the deal. So yeah, Gil's contract could have been even worse.

The Arenas thing reminds me of when I played poker. Sometimes you make the right decision and lose. But, if you make the right decision enough, the odds will be in your favor over the long run.

I agreed with re-signing Gilbert too for the same reasons you stated. The problem is you, me or no one else on this board knew the existant of Gilbert's injury problems. At the time of the deal, we all assumed he was well on his way to recovery.

But then a year or two ago, Gilbert admitted in an interview that he still having serious issues with the knee during that offseason and that the Wizards knew of these issues and still decided to pay him.

That shocked me. I don't know how you could pay someone that much money knowing that he was still having major issues. Or how he even passed a physical. Or how his contract could be even insured considering his problems.

If he was healthy, then the move made total sense. But apparently he wasn't so I think it's fair to wonder WTF was someone thinking in offering him a max deal.

I posted words to the effect "Gil knows his body is breaking down and that is why he is opting out."

There was no way to know but everything leading up to it made me intuitively believe the reason Arenas opted out when he did was because Gilbert was hedging against injuries and cashing in while the getting was good. I debated/argued with you guys and nate and someone said his injuries were not serious. I begged to differ.

On this one, I know ITYA's. Not to be confrontational or arrogant or anything but matter-of-fact. Seemed to me the guy had really been injured two seasons. He wasn't better yet, and that much was clear that summer as he was still rehabbing.

I knew. You know how I nag and rant and repeat myself. I posted Gil knows he's still hurt a bunch.

I don't think we know-yet if Aldrich & Babbitt are bust's, they are on deep teams buried on the bench. If Portland loses Batum or Wallace, we may yet get to see Babbitt. Aldrich is a trade asset.

Last but not least, I never minded Pierre or BigDaddyWookie. Javale makes mistakes on the court but so does John Wall, and so does Nene. The planking and all that stuff doesn't bother me. You cannot say they are the reason he's not a better basketball player--because then you'd have to find a reason for the way Crawford and Wall play. Neither is a rookie. Think the Denver Nuggets were crazy to take a chance on trading for flaky man-child JaVale McGee? Wrong. Not only did he come up with the game-winning putback in his first Nuggets appearance, but he's just about the best thing the NBA has going for it on Twitter, as Jack Moore of BuzzFeed discovered. Whether as himself or his alter-ego Pierre, McGee is inquisitive ("how do u make the drum sound with words?"), he's philosophical ("@the is the coolest twitter name on twitter.... So simple... He made the same kind of plays. I saw some WTFs. One wild dunk attempt. He also tried to take a charge at half court. He committed some fouls. He was a little slow moving laterally once or twice.

However, McGee had 4 or 5 spectacular plays. He played harder. He crashed into people.

But that was his first game, too. The real Javale will return.

My thoughts are McGee now has a much better situation/organization to grow into. I was happy to see him get off to a good start.

I really, really wish I had been wrong about the Wizards resigning a broken Gil, and being saddled with big contracts for years to come.

i hope this deal of Nene for McGee isn't as bad as I fear it is. Hope Nene stays healthy and doesn't grow frustrated with the Wizards for doing things the Wizards way. I hope we don't have to watch McGee reach his full potential at about the time Nene really wants a trade, and with Wall about to leave. I hope I'm wrong.

Amare and Chandler both have checkered injury histories. They'll start slow. The fans and media will go insane, D'Antoni will be fired. They'll beg Phil Jackson. He'll wisely say "no thanks, that roster is a disaster" and Dolan will hire Isiah. Yeah baby!!!

Nah, if Mo could have gone to the Knix, he screwed up bad. I think they're going to have a great season. Chandler was the perfect fit for them. And remember, they have Landry Fields at the 2 - a great defender who - as long as he hits open 3's - is a perfect fit. They have a very good 3rd guard in Douglas. They just need an unslefish decent starting PG - and I have a sneaking suspicion they're going to find one.

Well, they did find Jeremy Lin, but they're still having a bad season and are fatally flawed in their construction. Score one for the fisherman!

There are three major parts to this play:

-McGee obliterates Greg Monroe’s attempt at a box out. Piston eyed glasses might point out that McGee seems to be using an arm to pull Monroe outward; while to these eyes it seems more like a cunning chair-pulling play, it’s hard to argue that McGee did a smart thing here. Monroe is not an elite athlete, but he most certainly is an elite defensive rebounder, picking up 24% of all available defensive caroms precisely because he knows where to be and how to prevent his man from getting there first. McGee uses Monroe’s strength against him, sending him toppling while clearing a path to the rim.

-With the ball off the rim but clearly still within the cylinder, McGee waits. This is an incredibly savvy play, one that we’d expect from the Nick Collisons and Shane Battiers of the world, certainly not from He Who Has Made Goaltending An Art. Patience? Awareness? Playing by the rules? Apparently, yes.

-Somehow, McGee is still in the air when the ball finally comes out of the cylinder and within a rebounder’s grasp. Unlike the previous comment, this is a very McGeeian quality. His unique combination of huge, hops and hangtime is what makes this play happen, as well as the reason he was a valid NBA prospect in the first place.

You could be right. Or, it could be I've learned from history.

What I do is look at the bigger picture. Javale just turned 24. He has played with a MISERABLE organization. Yet, in terms of productivity, he's among league leaders in blocks, field goal percentage, and offensive rebound percentage. (Edited for brevity)

But what has he proven? That he is a low IQ player who can make blooper reels. That he is HORRIBLE at pick and roll defense the way the Wizards played him. He's proven to be a guy who has an alter ego and sense of humor that grates a lot of people. Yet, none of that stops what is in bold print: actual production. Also, what McGee proved was situational. He was with the Wizards under Wittman, who played certain lineups at a time when the team was young and lacking talent. Situations change when a player is traded or new coaching and/or teammates are acquired.

In the 2006 playoffs (when Tyson was the age Javale is now) Chandler averaged 1.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and nothing else in 17.3 minutes over 6 games.

Chandler's PER was 12.2

After that, the Bulls traded Tyson Chandler to New Orleans for a proven veteran. PJ Brown (and also, JR Smith)

MDStar, I bet the Bulls' GM thought like you. The proven commodity, PJ Brown had been in many playoff wars, similar to Nene.

In retrospect, Tyson Chandler for PJ Brown was the very same kind of deal Ernie Grunfeld just did trading Javale McGee for Nene. ONLY, McGee's PER is 19--way higher than Chandler's was. McGee is arguably a better player at the age of 24 than Tyson Chandler was. ALSO, PJ Brown didn't cost nearly as much as Nene.

I don't associate "proven" with "veteran". I prefer to look at advanced metrics.

truwizfan4evr, I was against the Ben Wallace for Ike Austin deal the day it went down. Much like this McGee deal. I was against Rip for Stackhouse--and Jerry is still in the league--the day that deal went down. I knew trading the fifth pick for Foye and Miller was ludicrous. I also felt it was very unwise to resign an injured Gil, and lump Antawn Jamison's contract on to it. Unlike 95% of the folks I was NEVER down with any of those moves. Said so, before they went down. Said draft Faried--the guy who got Nene traded.

What Nene has in a few good years comes with a HEFTY contract.

What Javale has demonstrated at age 23-24 is like Tyson Chandler, he can go somewhere else and totally blow up. (Note: Chandler made $9M that year where he played less than Sweetney in the playoffs, right before he was traded. People foolishly think McGee isn't worth $9M now.)

What emotional fans and a really bad GM show me is the media can make the average fan crucify a player, but they almost always give a coach like Flip or a GM like Ernie a pass when it comes to calling them knuckleheads. I think Grunfeld is an incompetent. I don't like Leonsis as an owner because he allowed this last deal to go down.

I have seen a lot of things go down over the years and I have really strong opinions. I could be wrong, but I doubt it. (Charles Barkley says that a lot.)

I was right then and I was right now. Shanahan tore the Redskins to the foundations, and despite initial mistakes, has them on course not for a return to relevance, but a return to glory. Young, deep,. talented at nearly every position (except OL and he has a history of making unheralded guys mainstays in that unit). Getting rid of malcontents. Getting rid of entitled jackoffs. Finding the gems among the trash that was here before he got here, and making use of the wasted resources.

Totally mishandled the Gilbert situation.
Made NO upgrades to the training/medical staff, and I think publicly defended them. One of the first things Shanny did was overhaul the training staff (granted, we still got mauled by injury, but a lot of those were freak injuries/random, not the kind of nagging things that the training staff can effect)
Kept guys like Unseld Jr. around.

Basically, Leonsis basically kept the same organization around and put a fresh coat of paint on it, while Shanny/Allen demolished the building and built a new one.

I said the Bullets should have picked Clyde Drexler over Jeff Malone - they picked Malone 10th and I think Drexler went 12th. That wasn't long after the infamous Kenny Green pick over Karl Malone and before the Bullets trade for Moses Malone.
