Whatever happened to the Target Center renovation plan?

Post#1 » by C.lupus » Fri Mar 16, 2012 9:58 pm

This got publicity a year ago and I haven't heard anything about it since. Is it dead? Is it tied to the Vikings Stadium fiasco? It seemed like a good, logical plan to me.

Yep, it's tied up with the Vikings, gambling, convention center taxes, and probably hookers as well.

Minneapolis is all beatnik hipsters and they don't want to support any sales taxes going to sports because it takes away from financing to be able to show coma-inducing exhibits at the Walker Art Center. Doesn't help that Chris Coleman doesn't want a pimped out Target Center out-booking Xcel for lucrative Barry Manilow concerts.

You simply don't fight Chris Coleman, that guy has mob ties.

I was afraid of that. Seems like it would be much easier to get the money on its own. $150 million is about one Kevin Love over ten years. Its not that much. Oh well.
