King's Player Evaluation

Post#1 » by Rapsfan07 » Tue Mar 20, 2012 2:52 am

Raptors fan here. Just trying to find out how Kings fans/management view their players

Reke - I've heard all sorts of things about him from trading him to him being the star or even a core piece of the Kings. What's the deal with him? He still looks like a good player.

Hickson - Why was he waived? I haven't been following him and his situation but he a good player last I checked. Why was he waived? Locker room/chemistry issues? Performance? What happened?

Thompson - I've always liked the guy and thought that he'd be better suited for different team. From my understanding, he's a offensive minded PF. But how's his D? Does he run the floor well? What are some pros and cons about him and how does he fit into the King's future seeing as how I think he expires soon.

Cousins - Beast.

Thoughts?

Reke will be an all star once he learns to shoot a jumpshot, Kings just brought in one of the best shooting coaches around to work with Reke. So I think the Kings will stick with Reke and hope he learns to shoot, if he does that he will be a nightmare matchup for oppossing teams. Main reason many want to trade him is because Thornton can give us that scoring fro the sg position, Reke is not a pg, and we lose some of the mismatch favors by playing him at sf. So at some point we have to either trade Reke or Thornton or move one to the bench (which would be Thornton).

Hickson was never good. Lebron made him look good, then when lebron was gone Hickson just played a lot of minutes and shot a lot of shots because the Cavs didn't really have much else. His stats were misleading, the dude is terrible. He can't catch a ball, no defense (always looks lost), he is dumb and does dumb things, he thinks he has to shoot it everytime he touches the ball, he's just not very good. Granted we weren't using him correctly, but imo he still isn't a guy I'd want on my team.

Thompson is not an offensive minded pf. He is very well balanced between offense and defense. He can do a bit of everything. He is a great role player in that he knows his role and does it well. He can score a few different ways, a willing passer, he is a decent defender, great rebounder, and yes he runs the floor very well. He is usually the guy grabbing the put back from Rekes silly layups. His offensive stats aren't great this year because he wasn't getting minutes early in the year and he is usually the 4th or 5th option out there on offense. But IMO this has been his best year. He could easily be an efficient 15 and 10 guy if a team needs him to be that sort of player.

And ya Cousins is a beast!

How about Jimmer? Are you guys using the B word yet?

Last 5 games don't look too good.

Smart needs to be consistent with Jimmer's minutes. Jimmer is probably starting to lose his confidence but Smart "supposedly" knows how to develop pg's just like he did with Lin...

Like many of the rookies this year Jimmer got the shaft with the lockout. That meant no summer league, almost no training camp, and no contact with coaches for the entirety of the summer.

I don't think last year's draft was all that great, but I think we're seeing such a weak crop of rookies this year because they didn't have that initial training that other rookies get; they just got thrown into the fire.

Next year he should be fine. He won't be 20ppg fine or starting PG fine. But I definitely think he's a shooter off the bench that will help the team a lot.

The position I'm in with Jimmer is that I genuinely don't think he'll be a bust, but I also kinda don't care. As I see it, we have two young PGs whose future is as a sparkplug (in different ways) off the bench, and Isaiah is the better one. So developing him isn't a huge concern for me. I'd be fine seeing him succeed elsewhere.

Yeah normally I would imagine fans be on Jimmer's case, but with the emergence of IT so soon, we can give some time to develop.
