Nene "Tank Buster" Appreciation Thread

After watching Nene play all of one quarter, it is great the Wizards have this man. He is so much better than I realized.

Nene is a one-man tank buster.



There will be no tanking the rest of this season. I hope Nene can stay healthy, because he is a very good player who will help this team win a lot more games.

As I posted in the game-thread and postulated when he was drafted, Nene is a guy who simply raises the collective effort and I.Q of his teammates.

Loved the trade when it was announced, love it now.

Now, can we puhhhh-leeese get Buck to pronounce his name correctly? "Nanet"? Really, Buck?

Nene has been a good player on both ends for a long time. That isn't going to suddenly change just because he puts on a Wizards uni.

I just wanted to see if he came here with the right attitude and played hard. I was a little worried that he might come here and mail it in.

He certainly brought it tonight. Fun to watch.

...TONIGHT WAS AWESOME! I've never seen a legitimately good two-way big in a Wizard's uniform. I don't know what to make of this. Everything looked better. I already have a mancrush on Nene.

Oh we definitely have flaws but when we traded for Nene, I don't think we got worse in any aspect and simply improved in many more.

I guess you could argue defensive rebounding but I'd make the argument that, while McGee had a good dreb%, he didn't have a great impact on our team rebounding. Nene seems like one of those guys who may not put up great rebounding numbers but his team rebounds better with him on the floor.

Amen on all counts including Buck--who I like--but just call him nay-nay like everyone else.
I had this weird sense that 3/4 of the team is now totally buying in to the team concept & really good synergistic things could happen down the road if they build off this right.

Nene's defensive rebounding % is quite solid. It's his ORB% that's poor.

Realist, I'm enjoying the heck out of the honeymoon phase.

The way he plays will help. His attitude is great. The barometer for success will be how long he stays healthy. He grinded out 9.5 years in Denver. Nene will be professional at least through next season. Nene is in a mentor/leader role with this team, and he's going to be loved by the fans.

I deemed it a bad trade over the long haul. Lots of things to be cautious of with Nene's contract and injury history. Also, letting a 7-footer go is dicey. (Javale McGee had a put back to win the game. His coach used him very intelligently, BTW.)

eathb_au, I want to enjoy the deal because over the short haul it can certainly be good for the Wizards. I will appreciate Nene, regardless, even if the deal IMO wasn't good over the long haul.

He played against Candace Parker Williams and Johan Petro. Love the way he plays the game but those numbers were inflated. Now of course, we won't be getting Anthony Davis.

Glad to hear that Nenê had a good game for his first outing there. My daughter is still mad at the Nuggets FO for trading him. Tears welled up in her eyes when we watched today's episode of "The Association" when they talked about the trade.

I always pronounced his name ne-nay although I sometimes heard people use nay-nay.

In more serious matters, Holden Kushner asked Nene whether he could help Andray Blatche’s game.

“Yes, yes, we gonna do everything what we can,” Nene said. “You can change a lot of things, man, when you have dedication, love, patience. That is not only with him, but other young players, about the game. They can develop, and when you see the team’s getting better, you get better too. You want to make part of the group and how it is.

“When you’re doing everything ok, other players want to influence and do good things too. That’s what I believe....I know sometimes the bad things come [before] the good things. That’s what I believe in. That’s what I work for.”

And John Wall?

“He’s amazing,” Nene said. “He’s amazing. I compare him to Ty Lawson, because both is young and very talented. The athleticism is unbelievable, and he can learn a lot of things. I think we gonna do really well. He have the winning spirits.”

I've got a bad feeling about this. I don't think Ted is going to amnesty Blatche. They're going to try and rehabilitate him and use him as a stretch 5 in a Mike D'Antoni offense.

After the game Wittman was talking about how Nene didn't know the plays. Wit told him not to worry about it, just play his game. If we didn't know better we wouldn't have been able to tell watching the game that Nene didn't know the plays.
