I understand that the Suns are looking to make the playoffs and all, but in a realistic matter, what could you do with your cap space and draft picks to improve for next year? So I leave for you a couple of questions.
1. Who all do you resign to your team?
-Grant Hill is a must to resign because of the defensive mentality he brings and his leadership in the locker-room is something a team must have.
-Steve Nash is also somebody who you can't even think about not resigning, no-matter how old he is.
-Robin Lopez has a $4 million option. He is restricted and i think could improve under Gortat.
-Shannon Brown is a player that brings defense and energy off the bench, but how high of an asking price will he and his agent ask for? Would you pay over $5 million for the guy? I think he asks for too much so you let him walk.
-Ronnie Price is a good young player, but not somebody that needs to be resigned i would think.
-Michael Redd, this is a veteran who brings scoring off the bench and if resigned for a cheap price, would be good to bring back for at least another year.
2.Who do you draft?
-Perry Jones would be a good draft for outside the lottery. Having him learn both defense under Hill and playing minutes, due to Hill's age, would be good for him and his development. He is a scorer when put in the right offensive position and with his size for being 6'11", gives him an advantage over other SF if he were to play there. He can also play the PF if he is asked to.
Your current roster after resigned and draft picks:
5.Gortat/Lopez
4.Frye/Morris/Warrick
3.Hill/JonesIII/Morris
2.Dudley/Redd
1.Nash/Telfair
Now comes the money question on wether or not to spend enough cap space on 2 max contracts or not. We would have to subtract the money for resigning possible players:
Assuming Pheniox over pays Nash for about $8 million
Hill for $5
Lopez for $4
Redd for $1.3
Leaves just more than enough for a "max" contract. Leaving another question, who do you sign?
I'd appreciate an answer or two, thank you

Re: 2012 Suns
Without any good free agents available, I think we should keep our cap flexibility for 2013. I don't want to pay Robin Lopez unless it's in the 3 million range. Other teams will offer him the MLE, though, so I don't think that he'll be back next season.
Assuming Brooks return and the fact that Telfair has a second year on his contract, I don't think that Price will be back even though I really like him as a backup guard.
I'd keep Brown if he takes a one-year deal. He's been solid recently and maybe become a solid rotation player with a good point guard next to him. I'm not a fan of a Brooks-Brown backcourt but if we draft a point guard like Kendall Marshall it would be okay.
I'd throw a max. contract at Eric Gordon and see if he decides to come to Phoenix and if New Orleans decides not to keep him.
I'd see if Carl Landry or Antawn Jamison are avalable on one year deals. Both could improve our frontline and won't hurt our cap in the future.
As carey mentioend before Aaron Gray would be a solid backup center.
PG: Steve Nash / Aaron Brooks / Sebastian Telfair
SG: Eric Gordon / Jeremy Lamb
SF: Grant Hill / Jared Dudley / Josh Childress
PF: Carl Landry / Markieff Morris / Hakim Warrick
C: Marcin Gortat / Channing Frye / Aaron Gray

2012
Suns should re-sign Nash (2-yr), Hill (1-yr) & Brown (1-yr), sign Brooks (5-yr), waive Telfair (eat $550k), S&T Lopez for a 2nd, draft responsibly.
PG - Nash / Brooks
SG - Dudley / Brown
SF - Hill / Childress
PF - Morris / Warrick
C - Gortat / Frye
2013
Hire Grant as a coach. Amnesty Childress. Decline Warrick's option. Suns enter FA with $20+ million in cap space. By the time FA starts, they will also have their 2012 & 2013 1st round picks on roster.

Suns should sign Nash 2-year $8M, sign Garnett $2-year $8M, sign Allen 2-year $6M, sign Hill 2-year $3M, sign Dragic 4-year $5M, sign Redd to 1-year vet minimum. Amnesty Childress, trade/waive Telfair, Brooks, Lopez.
Nash/Dragic
Allen/Redd/2012 draft pick
Hill/Dudley/Warrick
Garnett/Morris/Warrick
Gortat/Frye
Win a championship!
Edit: Killer bench with 5 three point shooters (not including Warrick)
Edit: I would love to see the starters practicing against the bench !!! Intense stuff.

Re: 2012 Suns
It all depends on Nash. If he wants to come back to an average team then we'll probably sign a SG or SF to get us into that 6-8 seed range and be mediocre for a couple more years. If he wants to go to a good team then the rebuild is on.

Re: 2012 Suns
Bigfoot, that team would be hella fun to watch. Actually play better than a lot of people might think.
If I was PHX in that scenario, I'd S&T Lopez and Brooks to BOS to get that deal done.
EDIT: Also, I'd only offer KG, Allen & Hill one-year deals. Use all of PHXs cap space next year to give them large contracts, but maintain flexibility in 2013.

If the suns enter 2012-2013 season with the same lineup minus a tweak here and there and a mid pick.... They are indeed settling for mediocrity....

Re: 2012 Suns
one thing that i've noticed all over this suns board is that it seems a lot of people get hard ons for ex suns players/coaches and seem to always include them in possible scenarios. while i'm not saying there are or aren't better options available, why must we revert to something we've had before when it didn't pan out for whatever reason? relationships sour and i know if i got traded or requested a trade or left in FA, i wouldn't want to go back to the team that i left.
ie: dragic/stoudemire/d'antoni/kidd/barbosa/turk/DIAW/and on and on and on
i've seen it all over and it is really amusing. are we not able to watch other teams to get a sense of how they would play for us?
as an aside, how many players left a team to come back later on? i know turk made a transition back to orlando but i have a feeling that was intended.

Did you guys see Paul Coro's Tweet about Nash on the Dan Patrick show?
Nash on Dan Patrick: "I am not going to come back to the Suns... if they're not looking to upgrade the roster seriously & I think they are."
Interesting.........but, this shows that the roster will definitely not be similar to this year... change is coming for better or worse!

2012 SUNS
Sign Nash 2 year $9m
Sign Hill 1 year $4m
Sign Brooks 4 year $5m or make a S&T for a good point guard like D.J. Augustin or Goran Dragic
Sign Ray Allen or O.J. Mayo. My first choice is Eric gordon, but they will match anny offer so I think this two players can be a great second options; Ray Allen 1 year $9m or O.J. Mayo 4 years $7m
Draft the best player available. We will select between 13-15, so could be available players like Jeremy Lamb, John Henson,Austin Rivers, etc.....they could be an special players, but not an instant contributors.
Sign Kevin Garnett - Andrei Kirilenko - Lamar Odom or Ersan Ilyasova (in order of preferences)
Garnett 1 year $11m - AK 2 years $6m - Lamar Odom 2 years $6m - Ersan 4 years $7m
Resign Michael Redd if we need depth at the 2/3 spots.
Let Price and Brown go to another team.
S&T with Lopez, take the most we can, probably a second round pick.
Roster 2012-2013 (for example)
Nash/Brooks/Telfair
Allen/Dudley/Redd
Hill/Childress
Garnett/Morris/Warrik
Gortat/Frye/Henson
I love this team. If we insert O.J. Mayo and AK47 for Allen and Garnett we can be a very good team too.

Re: 2012 Suns
I proposed the KG Allen 1 year deal earlier but got shot down lol.
It makes sense... But also Nash needs to be on the same deal 1 year... So at the end of next season they can re evaluate the whole team.
