I like David Lee. A LOT! And of course he's not in physical decline as is Stat. But Lee's defense was quite suspect. However I do remember many posters here suggesting that if we had a REAL center as we do now, Lee's defense would have been compensated for. Would I do a straight up trade of Amare for Lee? If it were possible/allowed YEP I sure would!

I watch a lot of Warriors game because I live in the Bay. David Lee is probably the only PF in the NBA that plays less defense that Amare. He just lets bigs walk in, and watches. No thank you. I would rather have a limpy banged up Amare for next couple years than David Lee. People also forget Lee signed a 6 year deal.

carmelo anthony and tyson chandler do not join us without amar'e stoudemire leading the charge or star players rising to the new york challenge.

word. and amar'e has been a flawed defender throughout his career, but it is apparent that he is willing to improve his intensity and effort on that end of the ball. lee will never give a schidt. it is truly appalling to watch him do little more than pad his own stats. no pun intended.
stoudemire is an emotional leader and apparently a fantastic teammate. david lee is merely along for the ride no matter where he goes. i'd rather have kris humphries than david lee. and this is coming from a david lee fan who really appreciated having him during our dark years. i was stoked to see him finally do enough stat padding to get an all-star team berth and open the door for a big contract, but it was definitely time to cut bait when we did.

Without the trade assets or cap space to acquire Tyson Chandler (via Billups via Felton) or Carmelo Anthony or Amar'e Stoudemire.

The Knicks would be in NY. Madison Square Garden to be exact.

Lets be real, if we still had Lee, we wouldn't be anywhere close to where we are now. Do you actually think Melo would have come to the Knicks to play with Lee, or Tyson to play with Lee. And no way in hell could Lee ever dominate the game of basketball like Amar'e did last year. Lee will never amount to STAT career wise. Lee is just not as good as everyone thinks he is.

And what is your special talent? Sucking him off.
I am pretty sure during the first half of last year, nobody was complaining about STAT, and how he was an upgrade from Lee. He has one bad season and all of you want him gone. Without him signing with us, we would not have made the playoffs last year, nor this year because no STAT=No Melo, Tyson.
Nothing would appeal to Melo/Chandler to join us. Ungrateful fans

None of this is true.
The long term investment is getting a team to contend.
Amar'e does that, David Lee will never do that.

now u kno me i dont like melo ball and want amare and team game
but that not the ? here. if we ride melo then lee is better fit over amare

Amar'e and Melo don't work? Maybe it's just our previous coach's crappy system. Lee isn't even a superstar IMO. It's easy to look good on a bad team, and like everyone else said, he plays worse d than Amar'e.

Not to mention that that guy with half the salary and twice the production also happens to be more than twice as healthy, and surely not in physical decline!

Exactly
Melo and Amar'e actually played well together with Woodson at the helm before Amar'e got hurt. Without Amar'e we aren't getting anyone else.
