Barry Davis ‏ @SNBarryDavis
Just got word on good authority that it will in fact be Drew Huchison getting the callup by the #bluejays. #jays

So pumped for Saturday's game. Atta boy Hutch!

Whoa. That's damned aggressive. Only 234.1 minor-league IP before hitting the bigs, and less than 200 above short-season.

I'd assume that he's one-and-done, though who knows.

Farrell wasn't kidding about his love for Hutchison I guess haha. Very aggressive move on the Blue Jays part. I wonder which gets promoted next to the ball club.

I forgot where I heard this today I think it was Jays Connected but a main factor in choosing was going to start on Saturday had to do with sticking with the ball club. Not a one a done thing but a guy that'll stick with our club for a long period of time potentially the rest of the season.

Very aggressive, but super exciting.

Man, usually there are some guys in the rotation which you don't care to miss their turn, but all 5 of these guys are pretty damned interesting to watch. Will have a tough time not tuning in on a day to day basis.

Today:

Comment From Boris
Looks like Drew Hutchison may be brought up to start Saturday for the Jays. Thoughts?

Frankie Piliere:
I think he can handle it. He won't hurt himself, he'll be in the zone and has plenty of stuff to hold his own.

Comment From AZ
Is Drew Hutchison as good as all the hype coming out of Toronto. Low 90's FB, that he can spot brilliantly, above average changeup and slider...is he ready?

Frankie Piliere:
I'll lump these together. I think he is ready actually. The polish is definitely there.

This seems a bit much to me. They must be pretty confident that he's the kind of person that can handle failure well.

Wow!!! I agree with all of the above posters....VERY aggressive move by the Blue Jays, but I LOVE IT!!!

Hutchison has long been my favourite Jays prospect, so to say this move has me excited, would be an understatement. Can't wait to see how he performs....sure he could easily come in and get rocked in his first start, but I think he's got an amazing make-up, and will be successful his first time out.

From all accounts Hutchison is composed, mature, and most importantly EXTREMELY accurate. All of these factors bode well for not only success his first time out, but also for him being a long-term bonafide starter.

GOOD LUCK HUTCH!

He needs to be the hero to save our rotation from going to Morrow every 4 days! Morrow is the AJ Burnett of this team its feast or famine with him. Great stuff just its hit or miss no in-between. I still cannot forget the 11 strike out 9 run game he had through 6 innings.

I do love that we have a bunch of compelling young pitching talent, and I'm gonna be hooked in and watching when he gets his chance. It's been fun so far this year; Carreno, Alvarez (though of course we've seen him before), Hutchison... good times.

Whoa, I don't remember the Jays being this aggressive with a prospect in recent years. Henderson Alvarez had at least 400+ Innings of Minors experience before being called up, and even he was pretty aggressively promoted for an International signee.

Obviously Jays management knows better than I do, but this is too soon. That isn't to say it can't work out, but there's no reason to be this aggressive. Imagine what we'd think if the White Sox called Nestor Molina up for a start this early; we'd very likely be laughing at them right now for endangering an asset unneccessarily. Now AA and co. have earned a bit more respect in this department, but it's still a crazy progression for Hutch and I have a very hard time understanding why they're doing it.

Only thing I can think of is it might be kinda Zach Stewartesque. He's getting an early audition to seal the deal on a trade. That seems unlikely, but I wouldn't discount it as a possibility.

All that aside, I hope he makes me eat those words. I hope that very much.

I'm kind of on side with you. We should have waited.

If it means Hutch being a better pitcher for the rest of his career, then yes. It's short sighted to bring up a player before he's ready.

Quite frankly I would use Scott Richmond over Hutch, just because it would allow Hutch to develop.
