CLIPPERS NOTEBOOK: Evans urges Griffin to fight fire with fire

Interestingly, there is increasing chatter around the league that Griffin's fellow Clippers need to step up in his defense by answering a hard foul on Griffin with a hard foul of their own on the guilty party.

Reserve forward Reggie Evans, a noted tough guy, doesn't think that is the answer.

In fact, he thinks the only real answer is for Griffin to respond accordingly once and for all.

If Griffin wants the fouls to stop, according to Evans, he needs to take matters into his own hands and not rely on anyone else.

"Blake is 6-10 and what, 240 or something? He's a big boy. He should know how to defend himself out there," Evans said.

It would be different, Evans said, if opponents were picking on smaller Clippers such as Chris Paul, Mo Williams or Eric Bledsoe. If that was the case, Evans and the other Clippers big men would gladly step up in defense.

"But you're talking about a big man helping out another big man, you know what I'm saying," Evans said. "You've got to be able to defend yourself."

Evans said he would not have let it get to this point, if he was on the wrong end of the physical play.

"If I'm in that position people are not going to be doing me like that, you know what I`m saying?" he said. "I ain't gonna depend on no NBA to take care of it.

"My high school coach, he told me a way to get a person up off you. There is a way to get someone up off you. You can't ask another big man to do it."

Ehhhh... Evans should not be saying that. Blake Griffin is our 2nd best player, and crucial to this team, if he gets in a physical altercation with some scrub like Robin Lopez or Jared freaking Dudley, the only ones who will come out on the losing end, will be us.

As long as the injuries aren't severe, it's normal to have sores after a game, it gets physical specially for Blake banging down low for the whole game.

i thnk there is a way for BG to give them a hard foul without getting a risk...

dude is built like the incredible hulk, you don't understand how much a hard play on a player's arm will hurt them! lol. I say if BG gets hit hard, i'd make a "play for the ball" and come down with the "block" on their face with my forearm...

It's a play for the ball, he just so happened to miss and hit his face. I've done that a few times myself :)

I think it's something Evans should have said, as the league needs to be aware of what is going on- he's become a target. I'm not saying it should get ugly on the court, but if it gets ugly enough in the press then the league won't be able to ignore it.

Blake Griffin is our 2nd best player, and it's crucial that he doesn't get taken out of the playoffs by some 2nd string big man on another team.

AS LONG AS the injuries aren't severe...who knows what will happen next time. And as long as these players just get a hand slap, it will continue.

In general I agree, but really the NBA has to step up here, or who else will? The only outcome is that at some point Blake is going to be seriously injured.

I actually commed Blake for having kept his composure. There is just no reward for him going after whoever does anything to him, and he's smart enough to realize that. What he needs to do is not back down against these guys and keep coming at them, but of course the problem becomes that teams have backup big men with like 18 fouls to give among them, so...

Yeah, I mean I also compliment him for keeping his cool. But that bolded part, that's the issue. And it's not even the number of fouls, but how some of these fouls are dealt.

I think Kobe is spot on- you basically have to send a message back. It's not about getting pissed off and decking a guy back because it's cool, it's about dealing with the situation so it won't happen again.
