I'm okay with Pop winning. Just not entirely sure why coaches like Thibs and Spoelstra can even be mentioned. Same with Scott Brooks in OKC and Doc Rivers (not this year, but in recent past). It's hard to see what teams with the top-end talent would be without their coaches. Same with the bottom of the league. The middle of the league is full of teams with similar talent whose final positioning can actually be influenced by coaching. Pops has an incredibly old core surrounded by overachieving role players. Props to him.

Not bad.

Pop deserved it. Who would think the ancient Spurs could end up being the top team in the West? In this crazy shortened season, they kept up and held their own. It is expected that he'll win that over Thibs. Big factor could be the Derrick Rose injury.
Thibs deserved to be there, as they didn't had much help from Derrick Rose this season and yet they topped the East. But that injury to Rose really costed him a lot, he could even go lower in the voting with a decision like that.

I'm happy for Vogel, he may not have won it, but that's because Pop deserved it more.

Eh, I'm not a fan of Popovich winning it. They've had a relatively healthy year, and they've had the big 3 for years.

I'd have voted for Thibedeau myself. What he did in leading Chicago without Derrick Rose most of the season is masterful. THAT is coach of the year material. Guiding the same team you've pretty much had for a decade to the same results you've pretty much had for a decade proves that you are a top notch coach overall, but not "Coach of the Year". You're just consistent.

Ginobili was injured for the first half of the season. Splitter had injuries. TJ Ford retired.

Pops did an amazing job incorporating players like Danny Green, Kawhi Leonard and even Patrick Mills right off the bat. He took a Euro journey-man in Gary Neal and he replaced George Hill. Ok, he did this in the last year but you cannot overlook this as Gary continued to play in that level during this season as well.

Those things are taken into account. The other thing that has to be taken into account is that he led the Spurs to the 1st seed of the West and tied for the best record although most experts considered them done. And he did this by resting his starters in several games as well.

Derrick Rose > Manu + Splitter + TJ

Seriously, I know Manu was out for a while, but he has been back the entire second half of the year for the playoff burst. Sure, he's done an good job incorporating other guys (many of which he did last year), but is that any better than Chicago essentially being the number one team in the league with a core of Noah, Boozer, Deng, and.....and......and.......well, no one else.

Rose is better, I agree, but the Bulls were supposed to be #1 or #2.

Thibs job is outstanding indeed but Pops job is even more impressing if you take into account that no one considered them the favorites to have the best record in the West.

Oh well. Let's just agree to disagree

Win or lose, i hope he doesn't think anything less of himself, but for me, the guy is still a winner. I love the guy. I love when they interview him on the television, i could listen to him speak all day long. The guy just talks pure intensity, always positive and very inspirational. And is a huge basketball geek.

If he would remain the same players' coach as he is now, Frank will have a solid coaching career. He's excellent in making the guys feel they're the best in what they do. He's very appreciative and i like that in a coach.

The Bulls were supposed to be #1 or #2 WITH Derrick Rose. If you would have taken guesses before the season of the Bulls record with Derrick Rose missing most all of the season, they probably would have been much lower.

I disagree on Pops. Pretty much every year the Spurs are expected to be top 2 or 3 in the West. I'm not sure this year was any different. OKC was projected high, as well as the Lakers. The Spurs were right up there in that top tier in the West.
