Suns have CAP Space--Think big!

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Everyone does realize that the Suns have a lot of Cap space right? So trades the Suns make will be made to benefit the Suns not necessarily to help other teams. The Suns can take big contracts off of other teams for little or nothing in return!

This message also applies to other fans of other teams. If you want to bring trade offers to this board please realize the days of offering spare change and a bag of peanuts for our good players is not going to work.

Just bringing this up because I see posts of fans from other teams trying to get gortat for players who will likely be out of the league within the next few years.

So SUNS fans think big on trades. Suns have a lot of power right now. New CBA means teams with CAP room are in better position to improve. Teams like the Lakers will need to unload players and will have to receive little to nothing in return to stay within the CAP rules.

this is true....but there is one thing that HURTS the suns position.

and that is the ability to amnesty players. would the clippers have traded a lotto pick and Baron to Cleveland if they could have amnestied him? probably not.

there are a TON of teams with HUGE salaries right now that have massive expiring contracts this offseason. Celtics, Mavs, Blazers are a few. But there are a few teams that might be looking to shed large contracts. the warriors are one, maybe Memphis, Detroit is another possibility.

the other problem is that i think gm's have found out the best thing to do is let the ship right itself....just wait out your bad contracts and in the mean time keep your picks and rebuild through the draft.

i look at these types of trades from a suns perspective. would i trade our lotto pick to get rid of Childress? nope. so why would any of these struggling franchises do the same?

I see two options.
Option A- We keep Nash, try and get veterans like Gerald Wallace/Ray Allen/Kevin Garnett, while perhaps getting a pure scorer off the bench OJ Mayo/Jamal Crawford/Jason Terry.
Option B- Nash leaves, so we trade Gortat to the highest bidder. Does Minny still want him? They give us their pick, Anthony Randolph, and a S&T Michael Beasley for Gortat and Hakim Warrick (possibly the best offer available for Gortat.) The following offseason we have extreme cap space, and we could go after Dwight Howard/James Harden/Chris Paul while having a top pick for 2013, and having good young pieces to surround potential stars.

I like option A since I want Nash to retire here and that makes us more competitive but I think option B is more likely.

I think the most likely option will be option C- Nash leaves and we get some semi-talented players but nobody special and we are an below average team for several seasons until Sarver hopefully gives up and sells the team.
