P. Jones IV

Post#1 » by re49gb_2gho32fp » Fri May 25, 2012 3:46 pm

What is his NBA comparison (or "ceiling".)

Daye? B. Wright? A. Randolph? Surely he's better than Vesely on offense?

Interviewed today by C. Ford (adressing mental toughenss critique)

Probably a little too soon to evaluate. Has he even been born yet?

Perry Jones IV, son of Baylor basketball standout Perry Jones III, was born on April 28th 2012. Jones weighed 8 pounds and 3 ounces after exiting his mother's womb.

He likely already has a better work ethic than his dad.

I do not really like the Paul George comparison. George is a 2-3, whereas PJIIIIII is a 3-4. I am leaning towards Lamar Odom, in playing staying and possibly mentality.

Odom is exactly what i see PJ3's ceiling being, which is pretty good if you look at the LAL years and not the Dallas fiasco. He can be that play-making PF who is a horrible match-up for other guys. He could take bigger guys out to the perimeter and drive by them or take smaller guys into the post. He just needs to work on his post offense and make sure his jump shot is consistent out to at least 15 ft

Although his mentality and approach to the game is questionable, its near impossible to judge without really knowing the kid. Thats why pre-draft interviews are going to make or break his draft stock.

On the other hand his was so poorly misused at Baylor I don't even know where to begin.

1. Playing PF/C, he's a 3 lets just accept it
2. Playing with a bunch of shoot first players that were barely looking for him
3. Playing for a coach that isn't known for player development
4. No true PG to get him the ball where he likes

He's a big-time talent which people aren't realizing enough. I do question his desire but I don't see how I could possible know if he has it without knowing him

How is Perry Jones a 3?   He looked terrible playing outside of 17 feet from the basket, he can't pass, he couldn't beat slow guys off the dribble from the perimeter, he can't make college threes, his lateral quickness wasn't that amazing for even a college center.

I think Jones has enough speed and quickness to play the 3. I figure he'll be a 3/4 combo until he finds a niche. Just too talented a prospect imo. I'd take PJ III over Barnes and Drummond (sp?), no questions asked. Honestly, i'd go PJ over Thomas Robinson and Kidd-Gilcrest if i was pikcing. Funny because during the season i hated PJ3 as a prospect... But i think he's too talented to pass up. If he had/will develop a fire to keep getting better, watch out.

I see a poor man's Kevin Durant. A guy who can knock down some threes, rebound, score inside to mid-range. Obviously he needs to get a lot stronger, and when i say score inside, he will have to develop a post game instead of relying on height/athleticism. Still, even his height and athleticism aren't matched too often in the NBA.

I'll admit i wants
PJ3 is a top 5 pick. Some GMs may be scared, but i don't think you can turn down a pick in the 5-7 range on this guy.

playmaking PF?
nothing about him says playmaker.

he could be a workout warrior, but that's nothing we havent seen before. im sure his skills look great for a player his size...when no one else is on the floor.

he has more yi jianlian in his game than he has odom.

So Perry Jones is a workout warrior now huh?

SMFH

We get it that many of you auto-hate when it comes to anything dealing with PJIII. But to act like this guy didn't pit up 13/7 on 10 shots a game in college is being disingenuous at best.

I mean really, workout warrior??? Please...
