Aaron Rodgers Extension

Post#1 » by mlloyd10 » Sat Jun 16, 2012 3:58 pm

Leroy Butler is reporting that the Packers are close to signing Rodgers to a 5/96Mil extension. Thats a great deal if that happens, but is he leaving money on the table and will this effect other QB deals in the future (Brees)?

$19+ Million a year is the going rate for the top QBs. I am curious if they will be extending his contract by six years or replacing his current contract with this one. I believe he has three years left.

Seems pretty fair. He has 2 years left and it makes a huge difference if this is a true extension.

Here is a list of last year highest paid players.

Manning just signed a 5/96 but who knows if he will play that long coming off his injury. Rodgers

The Packers put money into Rodgers WAAY early and it benefited the Packers. Rodgers hasn't been the epitome of health, so it understandable him taking the guaranteed money now.

Would this be an extension or contract redo? If its a redo, its basically a 3/75 extension. That's a lot of money.

Interesting and obviously terrific news. Would love to get Rodgers outta the way so we can focus on the next tier of guys (Clay, Raji, and Jennings).

:o Reading/math fail

It would basically be 2/60 extension if it is a contract redo. Got to think Rodgers hinted at a hold-out to get that kind of money. <- if a contract redo

I think it might be an extension with a lot of guaranteed money which could be spread out over 8 years.

Is there any confirmation if this is a 5 year deal that is in place of the three years he currently has (so through 2016), or 5 years in addition to the three years (so through 2019)?

Nah. I think it's just as likely that TT wanted to get this done and give Rodgers his fair pay to avoid a Saints-Brees scenario. I doubt that Rodgers would have to even hint at a holdout.

You'd think someone whether it be McGinn, Demovsky, Nickel or whoever would've picked up on this by now if it had any validity.

I imagine it will get announced out of the blue some time in the next year. Nobody will hear about it until it's happened.

Yeah, and most of us would've said the same thing about Favre 10 years ago. Oh brett would never hold out for money and he just loved playing the game. Then he did it a couple times.

I just think it is a little early to do an extension unless Rodgers brought up the subject.

Here are the tweets from Butler.

leroy butler ‏@leap36

Aaron Rodgers extention almost done, 5 years 96$ million. He is way under paid,? thoughts?

leroy butler ‏@leap36

The deal saves packers money so bj, clay, Jennings can get resigned as well

leroy butler ‏@leap36

Understand this,Aaron getting a extention is not breaking news ,but if you only believe what you read in the papers, your behind, you decide

Still weird that Butler would have specific contract info that no one else seems to have. Unless he has the same agent? I have no idea.

I have no doubt Rodgers will sign a cap friendly deal knowing we have some other big money to shell out soon.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.
