2012 Draft Thread: 6/28 6PM

Post#1 » by cpfsf » Thu Jun 28, 2012 6:16 pm

Traded the #18 pick? That's fine, we can try to keep this interesting. Of course I have a feeling RGM is going to crash thanks to these trade rumors. Refresh makes trade rumors come true.

It's time for the draft experts to step up. List anyone you would rather have in the draft over Budinger (or just wait till #17 to decide).

Defintely: Davis, Beal, MKG, Lamb, Barnes.
Maybe: Ross, Harkless, Leonard, Zeller, Drummond

I've warmed up to the Budinger trade though.
I would be really excited to get back in the late first/early second to pick up guys like:

Barton, Doron Lamb, Jenkins, Jeff Taylor

My hunch is that the Wolves will trade the Memphis pick to either Boston, Orlando, or OKC, and take Melo, Moultrie, or Ezeli.

Someone (Calinks?) PLEASE tweet me updates during the draft. If you include my twitter handle (@joshvanklomp) it should send it to my phone. Will probably miss most of it, at least til about 9 tonight.

This is a pretty exciting draft from a general NBA fan point of view. It seems like there's a ton of rumors flying around about picks being traded. It could be a really eventful night. I fully expect MN to do some more stuff as well.

A couple of players likely to go late that I would love to see the Wolves grab: Doron Lamb and Jae Crowder.

More exciting than that is the prospect that several of our crappier players might not be Timberwolves this time tomorrow.

That's exactly the type of trade I see happening too, maybe including someone like Ellington or Webster as well.

Webster isn't a throw in because of his contract. If we're trading him, it better be for more than a late 1st.

Going to miss some of it as son's got a ball game, but will DVR and probably catch up pretty quickly.

Will try to post, but seems like I have trouble getting onto the forum during the draft, so maybe talk to all of you later.

I wouldn't mind getting a late first for Webster...

If somehow we're able to just get the draft pick for Webster that's fine, but if we have to take back matching salary that's a huge no (probably).

Have to DVR it. Still will look for updates until I get home.

I don't think we'll do much anyways, but who knows?

Reportedly, we offered D-Will for the #2 pick and got shot down quick.

Not surprising.

Ohh. Yeah I was thinking the pick would be the salary. No additional salary would be nice.

I bet if most GMs were given truth serum and forced to talk about Robinson/Williams they would say that DWill is still a better prospect, even after his disappointing rookie campaign, than Thomas Robinson. I'm not convinced that Charlotte views Thomas Robinson as their guy at 2, but if they do I don't really see where the disparate value is. It's even enough to not be a ridiculous trade on its face.

Charlotte won't take a deal until the 11th hour. The only way they'd jump early is if they got something like a Westbrook for #2 now-or-never offer.

I hate Russel Westbrook because he looks like a gremlin.

I love Jae Crowder but he is too much like Derrick Williams to me as a tweener with same skillset

I think D- Will is going to be really good and would only take MKG or Beal (the latter only because we could use a young athletic SG) over him, so I'm ok with that.

I don't have much to say about the draft, but I can assure you this: Whoever is picked with the 10th and 18th will be all-stars down the line. We'll spend the next several years being ridiculed for trading our picks away.

But on a more serious note, I'm hoping and expecting at least a few trades before the night is over. I'll be watching.
