Actual chances of signing Gordon?
I am going to go ahead and assume that Nash is gone. Perhaps we get a sign and trade out of it, but I am not holding my breath.
What are the chances that Gordon signs here? Other than it being the city of Phoenix is there any reason for him to even come here? Especially after the draft NO just had.
I know he is seeking max money, but I don't think he is a max player. So if we are the max bidder, I just hope it isn't for the max if we do in fact sign him.
So what are the odds?

No more than 5%. He has much better options.

Slim to none, Gordon would actually have to ask NOH not to match.

David Aldridge made an interesting point on NBA TV. He wants to see if Benson is ready to write Gordon a 15 million dollar paycheck while he has to care about two sport francises.
Hill on Nash going to the Lakers: “That’s like transferring from Duke and going to Carolina.”

Benson is cheap, he only offered Brees 100 Million.

I agree - about 5%. But I like they are talking to him as he is a pretty good player who should only get better and would be a great addition in that the guy can score the basketball.

Re: Actual chances of signing Gordon?
Yup, 5% chance he comes to Phoenix. But no way in the world would he give up a perfect situation and leaving the Hornets. Hornets have Davis and Rivers while the Suns got Gortat and Dudley. Who would you choose?

We'd have to front load the contract if we want any chance of him coming here.

Well, I imagine most players (especially 2 guards) would rather play with Marshall than Rivers. Davis might be nice, but it just depends....this guy just got through the rookie and early years with Griffin, and he might be ready to play with guys who have been in the nba a bit over a couple of rookies.
Not saying phx is his best option but I don't think too many vets get terribly excited about playing with rookies.

I think we have a decent chance to get him. I think NO is bluffing when they say they will match ANY offer.

Re: Actual chances of signing Gordon?
I think it's pretty damn slim. Our best chance is to sell him on our med staff and then have him ask NO to not match for the sake of his career, so we either institute a sign & trade or get him straight up that way.

Re: Actual chances of signing Gordon?
There is zero chance. We have to face the reality that we are no longer a real "destination". What do we have to offer? We will have to over pay for third tier free agents.
The top free agents would only use us as leverage to get more money.
If you were a free agent looking at our roster, why would you choose PHX unless we were over paying you.

New owner, two new rookies, there is a chance he isnt interested in a max contract player when he is rebuilding.

NO will want a deal to not match. Maybe a s&t. So now. Are we willing to pay Gordon the max and give up say, Dudley.

I wonder if Gordon would be more enticed to come here if Nash was staying too? Surely he'd rather play alongside Nash than Rivers. I think by not keeping Nash (well so far anyway), the FO have hurt our chances of landing some of these better FA's.

4 years at 58 million for a second tier talent? No thank you. I really hope the front office keeps the cap flexible like they promised.

Re: Actual chances of signing Gordon?
EG may want his handpicked team. From media reports, doesn't sound like he liked NO much and going to a rebuilding team won't phase him.
I think we certainly have a better shot than people think. If we make an offer and once he signs the sheet, it's locked in. Can't look anywhere else and NO has to deal w/us.

Re: Actual chances of signing Gordon?
He should realize that although youthful who's gonna pass him the ball in NOH? Who's gonna pass Rivers the ball? Who's gonna pass Davis the ball? Who's the top dog on the team?
He's priority #1 and option #1 on the Suns, and the team won't exactly suck.

Re: Actual chances of signing Gordon?
Could NOH extort us for assets if Gordon asks NOH not to match?
