Summer League

Post#1 » by SacKingZZZ » Thu Jul 5, 2012 10:34 pm

On the subject of summer league, this is going to be a fun one this year, saw that Edgar Sosa is on the team! Loved him at Louisville. Yancy Gates also made it, dude throws a mean sucker punch. Also see that Darnell Jackson is getting another shot, nice. Patrick Christopher from Cal another one of my fav college players. Can't wait to see Jimmer light it up!

James Nunnally on the the Kings SL roster? Nice!!

I had a class with him before, dude was pretty chill. Other than Orlando Johnson, Nunnally was the best player on that UCSB team. Heck, Nunnally in the early parts of last season was the best player for UCSB.

Ugh @ that roster. I know it's just summer league, but sure would have been nice to see Evans out there..

Nah, summer league isn't for established players. This is a great chance for Whiteside and Jimmer. My prediction is Jimmer leads the league in PPG! Should be fun to watch at least.

I thought Smart said he encouraged all of his players to come join the team during summer league?

I think that he just wants everyone down there for support and team-building. I'm glad that Isaiah isn't playing, this should be Jimmer's chance to get his mojo back.

To be honest I really only want to have a look at "our" players.
Jimmer, TRob, Whiteside.
And Inigo why are you glad IT isn't playing? He is one year into his professional career!
At the very least I would want him out there getting some chemistry with TRob and at the most it would give him some more time with Jimmer as well.
On the flip side Jimmer will be playing more PG without him there.

I'm totally fine with IT not playing. He's been a PG his entire life, so I have to think he has a lot of those skills developed, and there's not a whole lot else he can work on. He's 23, he's got the floaters and his jumper pretty much all worked out. He's as good as he probably can be defensively. He's already got the drive and work ethic. I think he's pretty much fine.

While I agree to some extent with your points there are a lot of other players in the league today that you can say well he has been an X for his entire life.
One of the reasons I also say that he should be out there, despite his excellent work ethic, is it does send a message that he is going to be our starting PG this season.
While I am not against this, and I would rather the team moving forward with him at the helm than overpay someone like Dragic, the question that I have is does it create the right culture here?
At this stage it looks like the franchise bent over a little too much for Reke and I don't want to see a similar situation with IT.

Evans would be unfair in the summer league.
I think that not having IT is good, it lets Jimmer be the full time PG. Sucks that Honeycutt is injured too.

Isaiah is at the point where playing against D-leaguers and 19 year olds isn't going to improve his game significantly. Jimmer, on the other hand, could see substantial improvement by playing against less athletic defenses (as well as guarding slower and less athletic opponents). I'd rather see Jimmer get as many minutes as possible because he stands to gain the most from them. Isaiah can develop chemistry with T Rob during practices just like Tyreke, Demarcus, Thornton and so on. He won't need special time in summer league for that. If summer league minutes weren't in short supply then it would make sense to bring both rookie guards. But, minutes are extremely limited so it makes more sense to focus on the guard who needs the most help.

*And I think that Isaiah actually played at shooting guard until his junior year.

They are also excusing IT from SL to allow him to stay in Washinton to finish classes and get his degree.

Most of the team will be in Vegas during the summer league practicing together.

So to answer your question, yes they will be there, just not playing in the games.

I watched that game his two air balls where BAD. As for the post Drummond was effective on defense. He has 4-5 steals and hit a couple step back fade away's from the post. Looked good. However he also airballed a 4ft hook... He looks to be what we all thought, defensive player who has to develop on offense.

Questions of Drummond's motor surfaced today in SLBB against ORL.

Very impressed with Drummonds lateral quickness. Even as a role player he'd be great next to Cousins. Been showing some interesting offense but I wonder if there is something wrong with his vision, I've never seen a worse free throw shooter. He can hit a fadeaway jumper from 15 feet but airballs free throws left and right. Wow.
