Andrei Kirilenko

Post#1 » by chube » Tue Jul 10, 2012 10:57 pm

Any word on what he's doing yet? I thought I read that he wants to head back to the NBA for this coming season, but haven't read much after that. If he's still looking to come back to the Association, anybody think he might be worth a look? Especially if we pass/miss out on our reported targets of OJ Mayo and Courtney Lee.

Let's say we don't get Mayo or Lee. To me, we're very solid in the back-court with Paul George, Lance Stephenson, Orlando Johnson (assuming he sticks), Dahntay Jones (who is undersized for the 3), and the of course, George Hill and Darren Collison at the point.

A backup 3 seems to be a place we need some help, because, like I mentioned, Dahntay is undersized for the position. Kirilenko is a long, athletic, defensive-minded player who also has a knack for scoring in the right situations. Plus, he can also play a stretch, quicker 4-spot if the matchups aren't working for West/Hansbrough.

Sonny Weems would also be nice (and cheap), but doesn't have the 3-4 combo.

I would think he would be pretty expensive. More than Mayo and Lee.

I would love to take a shot on him with a 2 year 5-8MM deal. He may want more, but what has he done in the past fwe years.

That type of player at the 3/4 is what we are missing.

I just went to Toronto for the first time for the IRL race this past weekend for the first time. That is a great city. Not much to say about AK47 but his last contract he was severely overpaid. Now I think he may get underpaid. If we can get him for a good price that'd be good with me.

I'd say he's probably MLE level of pay. I think his age holds him back from an Ilyasova like contract number. If you could get Mayo or Lee (whomever is your swingman target) to take closer to $5 million, you could possibly offer Kirilenko a $5 million type contract.

I wanted this dude bad last year, if he comes back to the league he'd be absolutely a perfect fit. Then maybe our depth wouldn't be smoke & mirrors and actually exist.

if he can still play, I'd take him instead of and not in addition to Mayo or Lee. I see the need being at 3 not 2. the active roster should contain two point guards, two shooting guards, and someone who can play both. Hill and Collison are the points, Paul George, Lance Stephenson, and OJ and the shooters with Lance being able to play some point in a pinch. Dahntay swings between 2 and 3. I can see Lee as he can do that too. I don't see the need for paying Mayo big money as we have Lance and OJ at the same position. now back when Lance was seen as a point guard, then Mayo looked more attractive, but that's changed. SK47 swinging from 3 to 4 would fill out the active roster for me. otoh, I can see them bringing Vaden to training camp and giving him a shot at being a 2/3.

^^^ Ummmmm, excuse me, there! I'll have you know that (somehow) Robert Vaden won 6th Man of the Year in my latest NBA 2K12 season, so I don't think we should right him off so quickly!

Just kidding, of course. I doubt he makes the roster anyway, and he's not even a "prodigal son" type of story considering he transferred out of IU and everything. I'm not sure casual fans would even remember him.

Andrei can still play but I'm not sure if he plans to come over to the NBA or stay in Europe. He'll probably decide after the Olympics.

Kirilenko might want to play in Brooklyn now that they have a good team. And the Russian connection?

I always liked Andre's game and I think he can still play. I believe he had a solid year overseas this past season. But, I think I've also read he plans to stay in Europe this season.

Even if he was available I'd rather see Lee or Mayo than him. We need a scorer for the second unit, a guy who represents a significant talent upgrade coming off the bench. I can see the attraction to Mayo. He pushes Paul George, can score off the dribble (probably better than anyone we have), and is a starting caliber player. Ideally I'd like to see Granger playing some 4 and utilizing a smaller lineup from time to time. You need that during the playoffs. Mayo fits that strategy about as well as anyone we could get.
