First thoughts:

Our team should be underdogs as the Wizards feature two recent lottery picks in their lineup. The Hawks top rated player is Jenkins, the #23 pick this year.

Hawks take the early lead on 14-2 run.

Jan Vessely is beastng against our undersized bigs. He's aggressive, long, athletic and a shooter.

Jenkins is just as advertised. Helluva shooter. Knows how to use screens well and get open.

Agreed on Mike Scott.

I think it's noteworthy that Pape Sy did not start at SG or SF.

Team active on defense, creating alot of turnovers. We're a good shooting team from deep and midrange, but not very explosive.

Since gm ferry traded for kyle korver. I think there's only one spot on our team for someone to make. It maybe will be a SF

Beal and Vessely are clearly the best players on the floor. They've combined for 23 of the Wizards first 32 points.

Vessely keeps missing dunks in traffic, but beal is 4-6 from the field and is living on the free throw line.

First half thoughts:

-Brad Wanamaker gets ripped alot. He is not an NBA caliber PG.

-Jenkins started 3/4 from the field, then went 0/4 for the rest of the half.

-Mike Scott has more fouls than rebounds and more turnovers than field goals. He's shooting 33% from the field.

-Summer league basketball is kinda boring.

-Beal is gonna be something special.

Jenkins looks like a player, can't wait to see him on the court with the real squad.

Final lines from today's game:

Keith 'Stringbean' Benson - 19 pts on 9/12 shooting 6 rebs 1 block
Mike Scott - 7 pts on 3/8 shooting 6 rebs, 6 personal Fouls, 5 turnovers [YIKES]

John Jenkins 19 pts, 7/13 shooting (4/5 from 3pt range) 3 rebs and 4 assists

Not a bad showing. He just needs an offensive strategy that plays to his skillset.

Surprised Ferry hasn't looked into Terrence Williams. We need another 3 and TWill definitely fits the system as a point forward and can drive. TWill and Magic Randolph would complete a great off-season.

1-Teague/Lou/Harris
2-Jenkins/Morrow/Harris
3-TWill/Randolph
4-Smith/Randolph/Benson
5-Horford/Zaza/Rafael(Brazilian Center)

Solid team with good size and young talent and scorers everywhere. Jenkins is continuing to play like he did at Vandy. Doron Lamb won't be the same kind of player. Wished we moved up for Quincy Miller. Mike Scott has looked kind of disappointing. Gordon out of New Mexico would have been a better selection.

"TWill" is not signing for a 1 year vet min deal.

"Mike Scott has looked kind of disappointing"
We got a couple "flat Stanley's" on this team. 1-dimensional.

Benson looks scared and not at all like a PF. No feel from the couiple minutes I managed to look at the game. meh

A good midrange shooting 6'9 guy will get a couple good games. But he has no length to defend. No upperbody strength or lower body strength to compensate...
Shouldve got O'Quinn imo. But thats spilt milk... Unless O'Quinn aint signed.

Because he isnt yet...I think

Hoopsworld's Studs from Day One of the Summer League:
Keith Benson, Atlanta Hawks – Benson’s 19 points on 9-12 shooting led the Hawks to their 102-82 blowout win over the Washington Wizards. Benson was able to score in the post against Washington, making them pay every time he got position down low. John Jenkins was impressive as well, chipping in 19 points of his own. However, Benson cleaned the glass and defended well, which is why he makes the list of studs.

Needs more context to be honest.
Who was guarding Keith Benson?
short forwards? Big power forwards?
short centers? big centers?

I'm pretty sure short forwards and centers weren't guarding him.

Return to Atlanta Hawks
