kobe loses 16 lbs for olympics: too much?

Post#1 » by madtrap347 » Wed Jul 25, 2012 7:29 pm

Mixed feelings about this:

Positives:
- he is so damn determined, i love it for this reason. I respect how he tries to accommodate to his age rather than letting it ruin his career
- for his knees

Negatives:
- he looked really thin before. can decrease his ability to back down smaller defenders
- 16 lbs is a lot of weight for anybody, fat or healthy. For kobe, that may be too much

No... 16lbs isn't a hell of a lot when you're 6'6"...

And with bad knees, he needs to be as light as possible.

Reggie Miller didn't miss it and he played to 65 years old.

I'm all for it. Not that much weight considering his height.

This got me thinking... Kobe has floated the idea of cleaning up his diet as a way to prolong his athleticism for a couple of years. So, I'm curious to see Steve Nash's influence on Kobe's diet. Nash is thriving in his late 30's, and I'm sure Kobe will be eager to pick up some tips. If you've listened to Jared Dudley or Nash on the BS Report, they make a compelling argument for clean diet and sleep.

Between the Orthokine treatments and possibly cleaning up his diet, there's no way he's done in a couple of seasons.

Kobe cleaned up his diet years ago, IIRC. Also, Kobe lives in Orange County, I don't think he's in the dark about super foods.

Reggie was always a twig though. If you put him in baggy clothes and turned the AC on high he'd go flying around the room.

There more perimeter play and less post play in the olympics anyway. he might just be doing it for the summer to keep up with the rest of the young guns on team USA

Great move for Kobe. When he was using the post more years ago, he added weight so he wouldn't be pushed around.

I trust his judgement, he's one of - if not the best conditioned athlete in the NBA today.

from a high of 240 lbs in 2005-06, he was at 200 lbs for last season

he's like what? 185 lbs now?

maybe eventually he'll come back to being 165 lbs as a rookie

185 lbs??

damn, im 8 inches shorter and weigh as much as him. i must be a fatass.

For kobe, his BMI with 185 lbs is 21.42, the lower end of normal-- almost under weight.

Its going to take alot of pressure off of his knees so thats great, it'll be weird seeing away from the post but with all the open shots he should be getting from Nash i'm more than happy to leave the posting up to Pau and Drew.

I find it hard to believe that Kobe was ever 240 lbs....just sounds like exaggerated nonsense.

actually, the lower end of normal (depending on who you ask) is 18-20, i consider <18 is underweight

thats why i said almost under weight. those ranges aren't absolute and may vary from person to person.
