We would pack the place in.

There is a huge soccer community here.

Phoenix FC!

One day....I hope.

This.

Also, I'm sure we would already have our own team if we could find 40 willing participants to die of heat stroke.

I don't understand the appeal of soccer but I hear it's religion across the pond. There's no way a team in Phoenix would make it. I know some guys that are fans in Seattle & Portland.

I didn't become involved in soccer until about 15 years ago. I would not miss watching the Olympics or World Cup Tournaments and if MLS came to Phoenix would drive down from Northern Arizona to watch a few games per year. Even women's soccer is enjoyable to watch. My understanding is the USA Women's National team practices against the Men's National U17 team.

I think a MLS team in Phx could kill it if run properly. They could play inside the University of Phoenix stadium. Also, they would draw a very large Hispanic population.

To say you don't understand the appeal of soccer means you have not taken time to watch and study the game. Do you know anything about a 5-4-1 or 4-4-2 or 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 and all the other variations and strenghths/weakness of the formations. Appreciating the organization of the various defensive schemes, the build up of a great attack, and incredible 1v1 play are all parts of the game. If you are watching just because you want to see a goal then you are missing out on so much more of the "Beautiful" game.

As a recent former D1 soccer player, I would love to have an MLS team in AZ. However it would be hard to do. Although we have a fairly decent youth soccer community I don't think we would as many fans going to the games as other expansion teams i.e. Portland, Seattle, Philly. Another kind of crappy point is the MLS begins in the heart of summer...where would the team practice? I doubt the indoor stadiums would let the team practice there because the grass would get torn to ****. Plus, I don't think anyone would be wiling to fund the project. I really just don't see it happening anytime soon, sadly.

On a side note: it's kinda cool to see some of the guys I played against in college and youth soccer in the MLS, some of them are doing fairly well.
