Questionable Warning Given

Post#1 » by Randle McMurphy » Fri Sep 21, 2012 7:48 am

It was claimed by the moderator LittleOzzy that I made a personal attack in this thread and therefore deserved a warning/suspension (which was subsequently given to me). But if you actually read the thread, you'll notice that I did nothing of the sort. I attacked CZAR85's argument with cogent points, not him as a person (which is something I've never done and take great care to never do). The apex of the dispute was likely me calling his response "poor," which again by no means can be reasonably construed as an attack on his person.

Personally, I think Ozzy completely overstepped his bounds with this one and I'd like to request the warning be removed. It was a bit surprising that he took it to this length yesterday afternoon, so I just had to put this out there. I don't know how the moderators are monitored/checked on this site, but it's certainly important for any forum to prevent censorship in the form of power trips. While I can't know this for certain, it is my strong suspicion that Ozzy simply did not like my message here (of criticizing the Canadian baseball manager's decision making in the Canadian baseball thread that he created) and that played significantly into his decision to both censor and admonish me unjustifiably.

If there is another way I should be formally proceeding with this request/complaint, please let me know.

Randle McMurphy is a returning previously banned user so his posts are clearly more scrutinized. I felt calling another user's reply terrible and illogical was an attack on that user when it was accompanied by no explanation why.

Sadly yesterday I wasn't even going to warn him, I simply asked him to move on and he couldn't do that. Randle has a long history of being stubborn so I felt it was easier after 3 or 4 private messages that a 12 hour suspension to cool off would be best.

I added a warning to his profile noting that he has already been banned from RealGM and his next warning should result in being banned again. I stand by that decision. Randle couldn't take the hint to move on so I had to do something a little more effective.

Howard, if you need any more information feel free to PM me.

So my previous ban years ago (which was rather unreasonable in its own right and much to do with those not liking my heavy criticism of very popular Raptors figures in Colangelo and Bosh at the time....oh, how times have changed) gives you the right to censor otherwise sensible and thoughtful opinions now? Over the last three years, I've had absolutely no problems with anybody at all, no disciplinary issues to speak of, but you choose to do this completely out of the blue to teach me some kind of lesson in contrition? It's very hard to understand.

I also gave plenty of explanation as to why his response was poor throughout the entire thread and why what he wrote just simply didn't add up logically. There was no personal attack anywhere in that thread from me or anyone else and that should be obvious enough to those that read it.

Sadly yesterday I wasn't even going to warn him, I simply asked him to move on and he couldn't do that. Randle has a long history of being stubborn so I felt it was easier after 3 or 4 private messages that a 12 hour suspension to cool off would be best.

Oh, I was fully prepared to do just that (even though I didn't feel it was really necessary on your part to say anything at all). But when somebody PMs me with a threat and claims I'm personally attacking somebody when I haven't done anything of the sort, I'm going to respond back and challenge that assertion with the facts at hand. Once I did, you apparently couldn't handle it and chose to wield your power over me instead. It seems to me that there's a very clear problem with that kind of conduct. In such situations, emotion should never take precedence over reason but that appears very much to be what happened here.

Randle,

i support the action LittleOzzy took here.

You got a second chance here at RealGM and it would be wise to take full advantage of it.

And I've been doing just that with no problem for three years now until this odd situation.

We disagree as to this action, but thanks for taking the time to read the appeal.
