Why no T-mac on the '04 or '08 Olympic Team or '06 FIBA Team

Why was Tracy Mcgrady not on the 2004 or 2008 Olympic Team or even 2006 FIBA?

Anyone know why not? Did he not want to play on either team? Was he simply not invited?

Just like New Orleans, he feared that roving bands of post-apocalyptic mutant terrorists are personally after him and that his safety could not be guaranteed in Athens so Team USA brass pretty much said F him from then on.

Maybe he didn't see eye to eye with anyone on those teams.

Nobody wanted to play in the Olympic team in the 04 which was why it was as bad it was.

By 06, he started getting injury problems and by 08 he simply wasn't good enough anymore.

McGrady got married in the summer of 2004. He also cited concerns about security and terrorism. Like Lightning25 said, he wasn't good enough to make the team in 2008.

I still believe the USA would have destroyed the competition had they sent a healthy:
C Shaquille ONeal
PF Duncan
SF McGrady
SG Bryant
PG Kidd
Bench:
J. ONeal
Garnett
V. Carter
R. Allen

Too bad injuries, other commitments, etc. prevented that team from forming.

He wasn't invited to the tryouts for the 2007 Tournament of the Americas or the 2008 Olympics in 2006. http://www.chron.com/sports/rockets/art ... 882777.php

I assume the national team wanted to move in a different direction given Wade's emergence and McGrady's attitude. Colangelo was very concerned about the image of the USA basketball team and nearly snubbed LeBron after Kobe Bryant's commitment.
