Kings...Aldridge's darkhorse western conf team

Post#1 » by DieHardKingsFan » Tue Oct 30, 2012 7:34 am

From David Aldridge's NBA.com column (10/29), his darkhorse team in the West are the Kings:

"* THE DARKHORSE: Sacramento. Yeah, I said it. The Kings have enough talent, with new additions in Aaron Brooks and first-rounder Thomas Robinson, to be in the postseason hunt. As ever, they will probably go as far as DeMarcus Cousins can take them."

I don't know about you guys, but I'm in complete agreement. I think the Kings can fight for that 8th spot, but it's really going to be on the shoulders of Demarcus Cousins. And that's what scares me the most...because if he goes down, for whatever reason and however long, I think the Kings get really small and that'll hurt us. Just think about it, who fills in for the big guy? JT? Hayes?

It bothers me that we don't have another legit 7-footer on the team. Why didn't we keep N'diaye? Whiteside?

I thought DA said the Kings roster was a recipe for disaster before the preseason...

Yeah, he did. I wonder why he changed his stance. He probably changed his opinion after seeing the Kings in preseason...which included those 3 wins over the Lakers.

I totally disagree about it being about as far as Cousins can take them. I think it's going to all depend on how the talent is used and that lies with the man calling the shots, subbing players in and out, and setting rotations.

The Bucks have plenty of shotblockers and look at them, they need a Chuck Hayes to keep them from being eaten alive by post bigs. The game is different now, a lot of legit post bigs and Hayes can guard them better than just about any other big in the league despite his height. Bottom line, the frontcourt is stacked as it is, don't totally agree with how it's stacked but it is nonetheless. I was somewhat impressed with TRobs defense in the preseason.

I have a a lot of respect for Aldridge as an analyst. I'd have to agree, this team goes as far and Cousins takes us. At the same time though the contribution of the players around him (mostly Reke, Thornton, IT) need to carry there own. If our guards come out this season shooting poor percentages I can see Cousins trying to do too much on his own, which will end up hurting us. Sharing the ball is the number 1 most important key for the kings to have success this season in my opinion, defense being second.

I doubt that's it. Aldridge knows preseason doesn't mean anything and everybody that played the Lakers beat them.

Okay, granted you're right, then what would have swayed Aldridge's stance on our team in such a small period of time?

Obviously DA has lost his integrity... 2 weeks ago he stated how we are bottom 2 teams in the league and a disaster at that. Poor DA he use to be so informative....

With the defense we;ve been playing, if we can harness the offense we had last year, I would not be surprised to see the Kings in the playoffs. Its going to be a challenge tho, but its very early still. Considering the spent the majority of training camp on defense, the offense might turn around, we'll see.
Sometimes you just have to look yourself in the mirror and say....Tyreke Evans.
That just happened.
