I think a sign and trade might be the best option. We won't get anything back with him expiring this year.

The trade exception could help us pull an overpaid but good player from somewhere else, and might net us a first round pick.

I'd also be ok with resigning both al and paul. Both would be valuable trade assets, but they might not sign here simply because they'd know we would inevitably trade them. But I'm starting to like that option a lot.

I actually think he has a lot more value than he's given credit for.

I'd love to see a Collison/Jefferson deal but who knows what Dallas is going to do/wants. Maybe something like Jefferson for Collison and Marion and we throw in a goodie or two.

I am sorry, but I don't think he played bad. In fact, he was willing to pass more the ball, and he tried in deffense, with 3 steals.

4-11 shooting isnt so bad when you get 14 reb, 3stl, 2ast, and only 1 turnover to go with it.

I actually thought Al played pretty well, though he did lose track of Wright on the boards a few times. Thread is golden just for that video game still, though.

Big Al had a great game. No way jazz will trade him.

Al didn't have too bad of a game. His shot was off, but that's how it goes. He's not a high percentage scorer. We'll get games like that.

But this is the move. Its not true, however, that teams won't trade for him just because he's expiring. There are a cross section of teams that see MORE value in a player like that than in someone who is locked up long term. If one of those teams gets desperate leading up to the deadline, that is our winning ticket. And we better hope that happens, because if he makes it to FA, he'll get 16-18m per season and there's no way the Jazz will match that.

I don't think Collison is good enough to be future PG for the Jazz.
It's time to jazz with Hayward and Favors!

To be fair, Jefferson was the only Jazzman playing in the fourth quarter.

He came in and hit 5 in a row while everyone else was turning the ball over or bricking long range jumpers.
In '03-'04, Jerry Sloan coached the ESPN predicted "worst team of all time" to 42-40.

Trade him ASAP.

Give minutes to the young bigs.

Utah cannot give him 16-18 millions next year.
a) The team has its young players to fill his space, maybe better than him.
b) He is really not that a good player.

But for sure there will be some teams these will desperately need him.

Maybe (for me not likely) Utah will suffer loss this year because of this choice, but believe me next year and following years will prove the otherwise.

How many of those 5 in a row had the Spurs scoring on the other end because of his terrible defense?

No matter how good he is on offense, if it's a net 0 thats not any better than us not scoring anything while we stop them from scoring as well.

2 of the shots made by the spurs during that 5 in a row span were Jeffersons fault and one of them I'm iffy on because Mo williams kept losing parker and picking up duncan which probaley confused Jefferson.

Its cool to give Jefferson and Corbin some blame but they take way too much on this forum. I mean everyone deserves blame especially our guards because they kept letting the other team guards drive on us at will and get wide open uncontested 3 pointers in this game and the other games. In particular, Hayward's defense against guards driving to the basket needs to be addressed because it absolutley sucks and they can get to the basket at will against him. He does very well against jumpshooters due to his legnth but not guys taking him off the dribble to the basket. Millsap playing like the ghost of CJ with 4 fouls and 4 turnovers along with Favors getting 4 fouls and 1 turnover in a 3 min span during the 4th quarter also didn't help. There so much more but the point is that there too many thing wrong with the Jazz for people too be focusing on Jefferson and Corbin.

There are lot's of things that are problems, but almost all the others (Corbin's rotations, Favors fouls, etc.) will get better with time and experience. Paul's inconsistencies will get better, as he has shown he is fairly reliable and actually plays solid defense.

OTOH, Al Jefferson's defense isn't going to improve with time. I can live with the other issues and give them time to improve, but Big Al just isn't capable of playing the D we need him to.

You can win with a guy playing crappy defense ala boozer, amare, carmelo, ect, basically guys that I have seen give up as many or more points that Big Al on a consistant basis yet teams still win. Plus we got to the playoffs last year with his crappy defense. So its not his defense alone thats holding us back.

Plus whether the other problems are more easier to improve is irrelavant and opionated. They aren't doing it now and some of our problem won't be improved this season if ever. For example, Haywards defense against guards driving to the basket and curling around for the open shot is horrible and will never improve due to his lack of lateral quickness and inability to react quickly to a change in direction. No one ever points out that hayward gives up a ton of points and constantly let his man break down our defensive coverage. Its always "well he does a great job versus durant and Kobe", well yea when they are straight up jump shooting without much movement but the other larger percentage of times he is getting abused by everyone from old man j rich to danny green.

All I want is balance. If your saying "dang jefferson is killing us with his defense" then I also wanna hear " Hayward getting destroyed off the dribble by his guy".
