Kinda of a shocking move by the Nets considering how hot they were to start the season. But with the way they've been playing over the last month the move isn't exactly a huge surprise. But when you put together a team with so many new faces you got to expect it struggle at times, to me this is a major over reaction by the Nets.
Thoughts?

Re: OT: Avery Johnson Canned by Nets
My initial reaction was also to defend Avery. But as it sinks in and get over the fact he was a beloved former Spur, I can understand it.
I'll say that if he wasn't a former Spur... let's say he's Mike Dunlap or whoever, I would agree with the move.
A few things that stood out for me leading to the firing.
Deron Williams complained about the offense.
Gerald Wallace experiment as a PF started and while he was very good as a small ball PF in Portland, it was a sign of desperation from Avery as he was searching for anything to get things going.
Kris Humphries was benched for experimentation.
A lot of players having a down season, mainly Deron, Joe Johnson, and Gerald Wallace. They're supposed to be your 4 best players.
And I think whatever offense Avery was running isn't a very good one. Even when they were winning, it was too much isolation.
While the first month was a success going 11-4, December was the exact opposite going 4-10. Not to mention they played 8 home games and lost 7 of them.
And then if you look at the direction of the team in which I think they're trying to make a big splash and bring on the big names, it just seems that this is the right decision for the team going forward.
I mean, I'm not sure what Nets fan thinks, but if I was a Nets fan, I'll approve this firing and bring in Phil or JVG. Ofcourse, if they end up with a less known name than Avery himself, that's bad. But I think there's no way Brooklyn doesn't get a big name coach. Whether that's Larry Brown, Phil Jackson, Jeff Van Gundy, or Jerry Sloan.

Re: OT: Avery Johnson Canned by Nets
Williams is a coach killer. He talks about how great the offense was in Utah, but he was the main offender in getting Sloan the boot.
But yeah, Avery's decisions have been a bit weird to say the least. I've only seen a handful of Nets games this year but seems to have a fascination with going to Gerald Wallace to close out games. Why? Deron is your max guy, your franchise level player...just confusing to me.
Anyway, I never bought the preseason hype the Nets were getting. I just don't like that team and the way it's been constructed, and Avery is not to blame for that.
