Darren Oliver to return to Jays for... $3M!

Post#1 » by Rhettmatic » Wed Jan 16, 2013 8:03 pm

Mike Cormack ‏@MikeCormack
#bluejays also announce... Darren Oliver will return to team in 2013 after his $3 million option was exercised. Assume no raise.

Oh AA, you beautiful man.

We'll find out his reasoning in a couple hours:

Mike Wilner ‏@Wilnerness590
Darren Oliver will be available to the media on a conference call tonight at 6pm EAST. I'll tweet the highlights for you! #Bluejays #Jays

They should agree to do a Peter Forsberg deal. Have Oliver on the DL with an "upper body injury" while he spends the spring and first month of the summer with his family. Then in August he can rejoin the team, fresh for the home stretch.

Looks like AA and the Jays won their game of chicken. Great because Oliver fills that bullpen role better than anybody else could have.

Bullpen looks solidified now, next up should be getting an effective bat to platoon with Lind.

AA knows nobody throws 3 million away.

Oliver's agent is 100% to blame for this for ever taking it public. Should have kept his mouth shut and dealt with this behind closed doors. He ended up damaging his client's image in the process, and I'm sure other player's will be quite aware of how this turned out in the end, if they do ever consider working with that guy.

Do I assume that he will deny everything that was reported and say it was his agent's fault, I fired him, issue is dealt?

I'm willing to forget the stories about him trying to force a raise. Chance for a WS ring was too great to pass up! Great to have him back.

John Lott ‏@LottOnBaseball
Oliver: "Not once did I ever demand anything from the Blue Jays or Alex." Agent Jeff Frye's comments annoyed him when he found out.

John Lott ‏@LottOnBaseball
The big trades "absolutely" influenced Oliver's decision. "I'm still chasing the ring."

Good to see him back, not sure what he was trying to pull off but in hind site his agent should of kept his mouth shut. it dont seem like to big of a deal but if the jays had signed a talent like him away from another team we would of been pattin AA on the back and saying how it realy solidifies the bull pen etc. All in all another higher end talent in the pen IF his heart is still in it and he comes close to his production of last year.

Return to Toronto Blue Jays
