Millsap Trade Idea

Post#1 » by rmdlwajazz » Tue Jan 22, 2013 2:15 am

Would be curious to hear your opinions on these two bucks regardless of whether or not you think the trade is a good idea:

Brandon Jennings / Ersan Ilyasova

for

Paul Millsap / Alec Burks

An interesting variation on this could be:

Jazz Trade: Millsap, Burks, Mo Williams
Jazz Receive: Granger, Jennings

Bucks Trade: Ilyasova, Jennings
Bucks Receive: Millsap, Burks, Augustine

Indiana Trade: Granger, Augustine
Indiana Receives: Ilyasova, Mo Williams

There would probably need to be a pick or picks thrown to Indiana to get them to participate...thoughts?

I am in the camp of seeing what Burks can do with some serious run this year and next. This year he needs the run to find out all of his strengths and weaknesses as a PG and the summer to work on his shooting and PG skills.

I think the Jazz would be okay not having a true PG with how good of a ball handler Gordon is, and Foye is. I think Burks could (if developed) have a little Westbrook in him. He can get to the hole anytime he wants and he is a good if not better passer than Westbrook already. All he needs to work on is his shot... yes thats a big thing... but Westbrook had no shot coming into the league but at least his team gave him a chance to develop.

The Jazz need to turn the reigns over to Burks and run with it while MO is out.

Also, Burks and Sap will never get both Granger and Jennings

Okay, the injured Mo Williams who will be back in time for the end of the season.... Mo is only in their for salary reasons until he can show he can get back on the court.

Fair enough - I would only propose this if Mo is healthy prior to trade deadline

Jennings may be an all star this year and will a free agent this summer. Ersan is a starter, and has had his typical late start to the season. Bucks fans expect him to rebound for the rest of the year. For whatever reason he put a lot of pressure on himself after signing his contract last summer which has affected his play this season.

I think Beno Udrih and a draft pick instead of Jennings would be more fair. Beno is an efficient backup PG for us. Jazz could throw in a filler bench PG as our new backup PG to balance salaries.

I don't know much about Burks.... What do value Burks? If it's high then you won't like my suggestion.

If the Jazz chose to develop Burks he has the skill set as a slasher to be very good in this league... He needs to work on his Jump Shot with coach Hornacek and get to 45% shooting. If they run him at point and develop him there watch out.

Sounds like he's got some potential. Anyways the Bucks are probably going to make a trade at the deadline to balance out the roster. They were one of the three teams as "potential suitors" for Millsap. Perhaps a 3 way trade could work here to make every team better long term wise.

1. jennings will never be an allstar. never.
2. this deal costs the jazz a lot of money. Ilyasova makes 7.9M a year for the next 4 years, and we need to give jennnings a new contract - so it's another big and lengthy monetary commitment. no thank you.
Draft Nate Wolters - FAILED

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

Agree.

This deal is horrible for the Jazz, honestly, not in terms of objective value (if such a thing exists) but in terms of fit. If the Jazz trade Millsap it's because they think Favors is ready to be the starting PF, so it makes no sense to trade Millsap for a guy who is getting paid starter money for 4 years just to put him on the bench behind Favors.

Then there's Jennings. He's like Mo Williams but younger and a worse shooter. No thanks.

The sentiment on Jennings on the Bucks board seems to be sort of negative. We all know he's one of those players who puts up #'s every night, but never really helps his team win. He's not a fit in Utah, not even close. I'd rather just let Millsap expire and walk away.
