Pau Gasol trade question

Post#1 » by FNQ » Wed Mar 6, 2013 5:10 am

Didnt see a trade thread, so if I missed it, my bad.

Talking with another fan on a Warriors board, he's insisting that Laker fans would be against trading Pau Gasol for David Lee in the offseason. I'm not so sure of this. He even went as far to say that he doubts the Lakers would take Lee/Barnes for Gasol/late 1st (which I'm aware you guys wont have for a couple years).

So I came to the source - what say you guys?

I'd do that in a heartbeat if we can sign Dwight to a long term deal.

I meant Lee + Harrison Barnes if that's what you were suggesting.

Mainly asking if you'd do Lee/Gasol straight up. Not many W's fans I've seen would be for that trade.

I kinda assumed you guys would do Lee/Barnes for Gasol no questions asked, any situation. Is that not the case?

We'd be awful defensively at 3 starting positions and that's being kind to Metta...not sure if that's a great idea, but I really have no idea what Gasol's value would be.

He's probably top 10 with Jimmy's metrics.

If we get Barnes, that's a cheap starting SF locked up for a few years, it would make the Metta amnesty inevitable. If we were looking to pair Ryan Anderson with D12, then Lee is no worse than Ryan and likely a much more versatile offensive player.

i wouldn't want lee/barnes for gasol either, lee just makes too much for too long. ruins all possible flexibility.

BTW, Lee was the laughingstock for his price-range relative to defense. Which, to be fair, didnt include defensive rebounding, his one actual contribution to defense and the main reason his defensive advanced metrics (like RAPM/xRAPM) werent terrible, and why he was a net + overall.

But I'm going to my impression of Lee's defense, about Lee's defense, and not really try at all :D just didnt think that it could right that you guys would pass on Lee/Barnes, or even Lee. Though I am assuming Dwight re-ups.

for me it breaks down like this. pau gasol is better than david lee. gasol is a more versatile offensive player, has incredible chemistry with kobe, and isn't the complete defensive zero that david lee is. rebounding, irrelevant, pau is a good rebounder and with howard, its not that big of a need. neither are worth their contracts, but at least pau expires in a yr and gives the lakers options. with lee, you're locked in for 3 more yrs. he's imo the type of poison contract that this new CBA forces teams to stay away from. i don't think pau for lee is even considerable, and i don't think harrison barnes, although a nice prospect, is worth the trouble.

Not into it, If for no other reason (and I do have others), because we have a pretty specific cap that MItch has been working hard on for years already to make a splash in two off seasons.

Barnes is way too much to give up for just Gasol, and while I definitely think Lee is an inferior player to Pau, Pau's current trade value is very comparable to Lee's. To then say "oh, chuck in Barnes"... well, just not happening.

not seeing how the addition of barnes is enough to sacrifice all possible future cap flexibility. he's not that special.

Come on, let's please not pretend the deal is worse for you than it is for Golden State. It can be a non-starter for both of you, but let's please admit it's much worse for the Warriors.
