What if we can get Andre Iguodala "Iggy" in FA?
Am I the only one here hoping we sign Iggy in the off-season?!

We need a defensive Center ... and Drew's offense is built on outside shooting.
And he depends on his athleticism but is going to be 30 next year.

Couldn't disagree with you more there parson. Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony and Lebron James have all had our starting PF as their primary defender because we lack a solid wing defender(well we have Jones but he is not a offensive player in the slightest) I think a wing that can defend is our biggest need.
Iggy is basically a shorter Josh Smith. His shot selection will drive you nuts sometimes and he thinks he is better than he is, but he is an elite defender that can contribute offensively...exactly what we need.

I never really liked his game. He's very overrated offensively. I know he can play decent D but at that age and with the money he's going to command I'm not too excited.
GO HAWKS.

He'd be a solid pickup. But not at a high cost.
SFs are to easily replaced. Corey Brewer might be a more economical choice.

In my opinion the only way we can contend with Miami would be to have Dwight or to have Iggy and tony Allen together.

I would gladly overpay Brewer before paying Iggy what he will probably get. Andre SHOULD be Brewer (guy who knows his limitations, plays his role and plays it well) but again Philly paid and treated him like a superstar so he got fooled into thinking he was one.
Andrei Kirilinko is another guy ho I would love if he realized his limitations. Hell, JOSH SMITH is a guy I would love if he played up to his limitations...but that's just not going to happen with some guys. Especially those that can do amazing things in a empty gym even if it doesn't translate to the game.

Possibly. But I'd go a different route. Indy gives them trouble because they play good team defense and are strong where MIA is weak: PG & Center. I'd go big with Dwight or Pau or Al Jefferson and pound them on the boards, And in the post.
Spread the floor with Shooters and just play a clean, turnover free game.
The way San Antonio just did against OKC.
Miami is a terrible rebounding team. That's their weakness. Let's exploit it.

Iggy's not consistent enough for me on offense to like him enough. I like him on defense at times, but If Josh Smith gets extended, I believe the two on the court on offense would be a disaster.

Smoove and Iguodala would indeed be a disaster.
HMFFL, do you have a preference between the two:
Josh the Shot blocker vs Iggy the lock down wing defender?

Uhhhhh I wouldn't really say PG is a weakness for the Heat Chalmers is great he just doesn't get noticed much since he is surrounded by lebron, wade, and bosh, but Chalmers is really good if you watch...by the way, why did ferry not sign bird man when he had the chance at least for one year?

8pts 3 assists on 42% shooting? Doesn't even handle the ball in the halfcourt or transition?
He is a GREAT defender and a competent 3pt shooter.
He played on MIA before LBJ got there when we used to beat up on Wade and the boys pretty frequently.
He's....a below average PG.
GREAT defender. But beyond that, a fringe player in the NBA.

Sorry, I can't drop my agenda yet. You just said he was a below average player before they became the Miami Cheat?
And now he gets treated like a star?

Huh? Chalmers only shoots 1 FTA per game...last night he had 0.

I prefer Josh Smith.
However, Iggy would be appealing to me, if we had a solid option at the 5, so we could move Horford to the 4.

I agree. Iggy isn't a shooter, but at least he knows when not to take a bad shot. He can dribble loads better than Smoove and is a great perimeter defender, possibly the best in the league. Only problem is I have a hard time believing that he'll leave that $16.5 mil PO on the table with Denver to sign for much, much less in Atlanta. Danny won't overpay for a 30 year old star that isn't a consistent shooter, but would just love seeing:
C - Dwight/Bynum
PF - Horford
SF - Smith
SG - Iggy
PG - Teague
on the floor night in and night out. Just about every Hawks/Heat game next season would be televised and that is a team that the fans could rally around. We'd be the best defensive team in the league.

Iggy's shoot selection is just as bad as Smiths. He is shooting four threes a game despite shooting 31% from there. Smith is shooting 3 games today with shooting only 31%. Both have this irrational confidence from three and refuse to stop looking for the shot.

nah smoove shot selection is worst. smoove shoots long twos (worst shot in basketball) at a very high clip.

Josh Smith is a very good wing defender. Look at his production at SF only:
In 2008-09, his defensive PER was 11.9;
in 2009-10, it was 12.2;
in 2010-11, 16.9 (the year he bulked up);
in 2011-12, 1.8;
and this year, his defensive PER is 8.1.
The last 2 seasons, his defensive PER at SF has been in single figures, a ridiculous number - but reasonable when you consider 2008 - 2010. One season could be called an abberation; doing it twice makes it real.
Josh Smith is not a PF defending Bryant, Anthony and James, he's a SF playing out of position at PF. He gets backed down when he plays big men. They go right at him, negating his shot blocking ability. His defensive PERs in those same years were 19.7, 19.9, 17.2 (the year he bulked up), 15.7 and 16.2. His best defensive year ever at PF was still below NBA average (15.7). I know PER can be arbitrary, since the coach's use of a player influences the results, but these numbers are telling. Kobe just went 11-33, James went 3-11, then Bryant went 13-27, James went 8-15 and Anthony got insanely hot and went for 9-12 from 3 while finishing 15-28 (that's 6-16 from inside the 3pt arc). It would be hard to ask Iguodala to do much better.
By the way, the very fact that we have put Smith on Bryant, Anthony and James, 3 of the greatest one-on-one players in the NBA, should tell you something. Nobody stops them, yet Smith has done a good job on them.
Rip2137 wrote:Iggy is basically a shorter Josh Smith. His shot selection will drive you nuts sometimes and he thinks he is better than he is, but he is an elite defender that can contribute offensively...exactly what we need.
Saying Iguodala "can contribute offensively" ignores the fact that his game doesn't fit Drew's offense. More than any other position, SG is where we need a great shooter.
We get beaten down when we play bigger teams, that's why I say we need a big man above all. Imagine moving Horford down to PF, where he'll be healthier and play stronger and moving Smith to SF (ditto). "healthier" - "stronger" - those are powerful enticements.
