We lost, so we need something to be interested in. Scott looks good as a backup 4.
My question: should Mike Scott lose 10-15 lbs and move to SF? He's got the offensive game to adapt to wing play; he's got a good shot from inside 15ft.; he has good handles; he's a good athlete (decent speed/32.5 vertical), he has a good body (6'9"/6'10.75 wingspan/8'8" vertical reach). The worry would be if he could defend wing players. Do we think he'd be quicker at 212-217, instead of his present 237?

Can Mike Scott be our next SF?
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

Sure, but don't we need to let him get his feet on the ground before we decide what he CAN'T do?

Yes. We owe it to Him and ourselves to at least explore the option. But I suspect his future lies at backup PF.
I imagine we'll acquire a SF in the draft and in Free Agency. Corey Brewer and a young swingman to groom.
But WE drafted Scott for his scoring skill as an undersized PF. He has excelled in that role in college and the D-League. Let's see how he fits in that role going forward.

I just don't think he can guard the position. But for his own future, I think he should try and make the move. He has a solid post game, the midrange shot and the handles and passing ability...just that guarding the position.

Re: Can Mike Scott be our next SF?
in college, Scott was basically an Antwan Jamison (Danny Granger) clone. he was a jump shooting, finesse PF, and in the NBA, just like Jamison, Scott will probably become a jump shooting twiner forward.
Scott is probably better off as a SF in the NBA or could play PF depending on the system or personnel, like he could be a decent PF if he played along side a Dwight or Larry Sanders.
anyway, Scott already has the foundation to be a good long range jump shooting forward, so if Scott works on his 3 point shooting this summer, he could end up getting alot of playing time with Drew and Ferry who love running the San Antonio 3pt shooting offense.

Scott has a strong physical post game though( I think...at least he does against D-Leaguers and NBA bench players) which could make him special at the 3.
His D will determine what position he can play. He appears to be an average defender of 4's right now.

Pairing him with a resigned Josh would be great. A pair of forwards that can defend either opposite forward and adapt to many situations. Also we have Horford as our starting PF and all we lack is a decent C to make scoring really tough for our rivals.

Ferry said Scott is strictly a power forward.
“He’s got the strength to be able to play the four position,” he said. “He’s got the strength. He’s a good 16-foot pick-and-pop player that can also finish around the basket and rebound. I think he’s got a chance to be a good player. He’s going to have to come in and compete both ends of the floor, do what coach Drew wants him to do.”

Mike Scott doesn't have the handle to play SF.
