Cashman is not a scout. He even admits that is his weak spot. I believe in the science of money, saber metrics but I don't see that talent in Cash.

Cashman didn't need to be a "scout" to know trying to sign darvish would have been a great move. Even DiceK was a good signing, even if he turned into a 3rd starter w/ injury issues, and EVERYONE knew the Darvish was better, more "aggressive" (DiceK nibble no end), younger, and had in Japan, and would translate to U.S, a "star" quality.

Quite simply, he was THE most awesome talent outside of a player from a MLB team who came free, that a team could acquire.

Yankees passed on DiceK. Passed on Chapman. Passed on Darvish. Darvish hurts the most, followed by Chapman, as yanks lack quality young arms and these guys could have anchored pitching for a while, starting and relieving.

Yanks were smart to pass on Dice-K because that contract was absurd especially after getting burned on Irabu. But then Cash signed Kei Igawa, which made even less sense. Chapman will be worth it if he's a starter but that kind of money for a closer is unreal. Yu has more polish on his pitches. I don't understand why you can't sign these international talents and trade them for other assets?

Yanks, one of the few teams, can eat money for prospects. Right now Cashman is betting the house on Pineda.

Been my biggest worry when the GM himself has never been a scout...I mean, that's the guy who cuts the deals. My whole thing is, so WHAT if the Yanks paid 100M...even if this guy has value, teams will give you tons of prospects to stockpile your farm.

Red Sox KNEW Dice-K was only going to give them 3 decent seasons, my argument was, then SELL HIGH....

Meanwhile, Cashman has this love of Florida pitchers...Carl Pavano, AJ Burnett.

the list of misses is just growing, and their recent first picks are not panning out

a total clean house of the scouting dept is required
