OT: Help with deciding to be a Twolves season ticket holder

Hi Everyone, I was wondering if you guys can help me out. I’m a diehard warriors fan but also a big basketball fan in general. I love going to games and am currently a warriors season ticket holder but am looking for a second team to root for get season tickets with. This will also be an investment as I’m hoping one of these teams will make the playoffs relatively soon. Now here’s what I’m looking for. Thank you for all the help.

Percentage of making the playoffs with a healthy roster in 13-14:

Nightlife near the arena:
Things to do with a 30 mile radius of the arena: I’ll mostly be going there during the season so winter activities.

The teams I’m contemplating on are Twolves, Trail Blazers, Magics, Suns, Wizards and Pelicans,

I would for sure. Next year with a 100% Rubio and Love + an improved supporting cast after this summer will be VERY fun to watch.

I give us a 70% chance of making the playoffs next year.

T'Wolves - arena is right down down, plenty to do. Actually quite charming in the winter if you're not in a hurry.
Blazers - don't know much about Portland but the team should be fun to watch and closer to California.
Magic - nice weather but the team blows.
Suns - same as the Magic.
Wizards - I love the DC area and they have potential to be good. On the other coast from California though.
New Orleans - shouldn't be very good next year but the city is entertaining, just avoid rainy season :wink:

If Adelman returns I'd give this squad (with the addition of a SG) a 95% chance of making the playoffs if healthy. Yeah, I know, homer blah, blah but they would have been in the playoffs this season if they wouldn't have been derailed by injuries. If Adelman retires, I think a lot of dominoes will fall so who knows.

Things to do in the winter: ice fishing! Hey Pek likes it. I can't speak for the nightlife as I don't live in the cities.

Minnesota will have the best playoff chances, but likely the worst weather. Minneapolis skyway system comes in handy.

From what I know, nightlife is very good near the arena. MOA is about 30 minutes away, and you can take the light rail a block away from Target Center to MOA for only a couple bucks.

I think your best bet would be Minnesota or Portland.

Thanks for the comments, any experience with the arena itself as to where to sit. Right now you guys actually have the best value in terms of pricing. I know you guys are on the fringe of becoming a playoff team and its an exciting time.

how's the arena itself and any ideas on a good place to sit? I am not looking at anything too close but perhaps first row upper level sideline.

I am planning on buying season tickets to another team, I obviously won't be able to to make it to majority of games but it will be an investments.

Another question: How do you guys often buy your tickets? craigslist, stubhub, team site?

It still completely boggles my mind that someone has that much time, money, and love for the sport to not only commit to their "home team" for 41 games (and playoffs?) but to also travel long distances and watch a completely different team.

I mean, a league pass wouldn't suffice?

Realistically if it were Minnesota, I would only attend about 5 games of the season unless there were back to back home games.

minnesota had promotions where you pay the price of the draft pick. as in if the team gets the #1, you pay 41 bucks for season tickets. #2 equals 82, and so on. i'm not sure if they will do that this year, but i felt it was worth noting.

the team also offered current season ticket holders a 10% refund for the team if they did not make the playoffs. it was kind of risky given that rubio was injured, but i have a suspicion they will do it again.

i've read stories that the organization treats their fans very well. upgrading seats and things like that. i don't live in minnesota. i've just read stories from other fans here. so feel free to correct me funkatron or anyone else who is lucky enough to have season tickets.

doesn't make the least bit of sense; since all the teams are crap and he uses the word 'investment' I'm assuming its a bizarre business plan to buy tix to a **** team and then sell them later when they don't suck?

Our first rep was AWESOME. Really proactive in getting us involved in town hall meetings, opinion panels, ticket upgrades, additional free tickets for Lynx games.

I think we got an email just once this season from our current rep :-?

I don't know if that is indicative of where we are seated now (cheaper section), the fact that we have been STH for 4 years, or just a "bad rep."

Honestly, if you are just looking at 5 games, gswhoop, then I would just contact the Wolves directly (call, or fill out the contact form). I've spoken with Ryan Tanke (VP of ticket sales) a couple of times. He is a good guy, very friendly. If you send a general inquiry about different ticket packages (suites?) he might be the one who responds.

It's investment in a sense where I won't be able to make it to most of the games so I would like a team on the upswing, where resale won't be like pulling teeth. So even though I can only make it to a few games, I would still love to be there for the playoff excitement and have a guaranteed seat.This is not a 1 year plan for me but atleast a 5 year commitment. So as much as I can just buy a game during my visit, I would rather make the commitment and be invested. I have been following the twolves and typically bring 4+ friends whenever they are in town to play the warriors. Im excited to see what Love and Rubio can finally do and I believe are only a few role players away from being a playoff team.

Haha I thought this was going to be the first question. I was like "...wait, what?" Props to TC, he's a baller and big basketball fan. I couldn't imagine traveling for that but if I had the means I bet it would be pretty fun. Hope they enjoy whatever team they chose.

As much as I love the Wolves, I wouldn't pick them. If you want to get face value for your tickets when you aren't going to show, the Wolves aren't the team you want. Even when there was a lot of excitement around the team, tickets on Stubhub were lower than face value because of the fees involved.

The only tickets I've seen on Stubhub that go for high dollars are major markets and OKC. Even San Antonio tickets don't have good resale value. I know it's the last game of the season and starters will be sitting, but as of last night you could get tickets for the game tonight for a buck plus fees. Honestly, it doesn't really matter who the team is, it's tough to get face value for basketball tickets.

We use mainly Stubhub, but occasionally have used other sites. The Timberwolves team, over the next 3-4 years, should offer you the best "games" to sell tickets @ a decent profit. We expect to make some money on our tickets next year. We came out about even this year, as we have in 9 of the 11 years we have been selling tickets for our group. We have had the tickets since the first season but we didn't do the selling before the 2002-03 season.

I would suggest you stay away from selling on any site that is linked to Ticketjacka$$master. On this site, someone or some team sells tickets @ far less than what season ticket "members" are asking. We sit lower level @ mid-court about 20 rows up, this someone has 30+ tickets in the last 3 or 4 rows in our section that they list for $20-$50 per ticket for some games, making it difficult to sell our tickets, even at a 25% loss. They may sell tickets on Stubhub too - but the disparity isn't as great.

To funkatron: I am going to guess your rep's name is Stanley - he is lazy. We are asking for a new rep for next season.
