Sources: Raptors Likely To Keep Bryan Colangelo

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Apr 23, 2013 4:59 pm

Bryan Colangelo does not have a contract for the 13-14 NBA season, but sources say the MLSE board is unlikely to consider a regime change.

Colangelo had instant success with the Toronto Raptors and won Executive of the Year in 2007, but the team hasn't been back to the playoffs since 2008.

Colangelo and the Raptors were unable to successfully build around Chris Bosh and haven't been bad enough since his departure to draft a franchise player as a replacement.

The Raptors improved their winning percentage from .348 in 11-12 to .415 this season, adding Rudy Gay, Jonas Valanciunas and Kyle Lowry to their roster over the past 12 months.

Next season should be the test.

He has already failed the test. Next year will just bring about more questions. Such as should we re-sign this guy who team finished in 7th or 8th place and has a roster completely capped out.

That's best case scenario.

Next year is essentially do or die.
Playoffs or fired.

I truly feel for Raptors fans, this guy is sinking your team. The Terrence Ross fiasco should have ended it... but here we are.

I dont think the Lowry trade was a bad one though. A late lotto 1st in this draft vs a very solid PG? I liked that move.

You guys in Toronto are lucky to have a GM like him. He's the son of Jerry Colangelo and he was responsible for some great teams in Phoenix.

Summary execution is a little outdated but the social equivalent in the league would be nice.
