OT: Cardinals Draft Day Thread!
To the mods, if this thread doesn't belong here I am sorry, you can delete it.
But the draft is tomorrow and this is a Huge day for the Cardinals! Already re-loaded with Carson Palmer, a new coach and GM, things are looking up. But the draft is critical for us.
First and foremost we need to shore up the o-line to protect Palmer and this draft is stacked with terrific o-line players so we need to go hard at them with our first few picks. I just saw on ESPN that Kansas City was now looking to take Eric Fisher instead of Joeckel but I think it's just a smoke screen because Joeckel has been expected to go #1 for quite some time now. He would be ideal for the Cards but I just don't see him falling to us, too many teams ahead of us need o-line too.
But my top 3 in order for who I want is as follows:
1)Luke Joeckel (OT) = Very Very Very unlikely he will fall to us, but you never know
2) Eric Fisher (OT) = Again, very unlikely that he will be available at our pick but he is a stud as well. Crazier things have happened on draft day
3) Chance Warmack (OG) = Could very well be the best player in the draft, but Guards are usually not taken high in drafts. The monster from Alabama will most likely be available at our pick and if Joeckel and Fisher are gone then we need to take this guy. He is a mauler at both the pass and the run and will do wonders for our line. We cannot pass on this guy if Joeckel and Fisher are gone. We can even trade down a few spots and pick up an extra pick and probably still draft Warmack so that is definitely a possibility as well
4) Dion Jordan (DE) = If all three of the above are gone, then we should fill another need at pass rush and draft Jordan. We have a non-existent pass rush so he will be a great fit in the 3-4 defense. O-line is so deep this year that maybe we can afford to wait until round 2 to start our o-line spree. But I would rather not because the line is our most pressing and important need by far. We will see what happens though
As for Lane Johnson, many people think he is the third best tackle in the draft, and that may be so. But he only sky-rocketed up draft boards because of his amazing combine and pro day. He played against weak competition and wasn't too stellar. When players spike so much simply due to their athletic ability during pre-draft workouts, then that is a big-red flag in my opinion. He could become great, he could be a bust. He is a big question mark, and at #7 that is not a risk I would be willing to take. If we trade down though I would not mind taking a flyer on him.
Who do you guys want on our team? Discuss!

Re: OT: Cardinals Draft Day Thread!
I wouldn't mind Lane as our pick. As you mention, he has played against weak competition, but so have many other good offensive linemen in recent years.
Just looking at the top left tackles in the league in 2012 you have Duane Brown - Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Michael Roos - Eastern Washington University, Eugene Monroe - University of Virginia, Donald Penn - Utah State University, etc. etc.
If we get either Joeckel or Fisher, I'd be ecstatic.
Only way we bomb this draft is if we go QB with either Geno Smith or, god forbid, Matt Barkley. I'm going to a bar just in case to drink myself under the table in case the nightmare occurs.

MJ says we like Cooper over Warmack. He's a better fit in our blocking scheme (but damn passing on Chance for Coop would take some balls)...
Jones has Spinal Stenosis, Jordan might start the season on PUP and Mingo isn't strong enough IMO. I think all 3 OT's will be gone by #7. Hopefully a trade down??
Love draft day!

No doubt. Johnson definitely has the tools to be a star in this league. And I will probably die of alcohol poisoning if they draft Geno when we already have Palmer. The man needs protection!! Not a damn backup quarterback. We need o-line in the worst way, I am so sick of every year seeing the quarterback get the snap then 1 second later he is on his back or running like a spring chicken because of disgraceful protection. I have faith in Keim and Arians though, they seem like they know what they are doing (couldn't say the same about Whiz)

I like Cooper too but if we want him we should just trade down and get another pick, but I would much rather have Warmack, the guy is a monster. And I am scarred for life at these draft day "injury risks" ever since we passed on AP for fat man Brown the bust. That one pick crippled our franchise for the next 5 years at least. But I would rather draft a peanut as long as that means we don't start Snyder anymore. I cannot stand that tool

Agreed on the Snyder front. Addition by subtraction. Cutting him hits our cap for 4M but it clears us for 2014. Tbh I'd like 2/3 of Snyder, Colledge & Sendlein gone. Say we take Lane Johnson and move Levi inside...
Johnson----Colledge----BarrettJones----Levi----Massie
Probably unrealistic to see that much shuffling but extreme measures need to be taken up front.

I have been clamoring for them to move Brown to guard for years now. He reminds me exactly of Leonard Davis- we played him at tackle all those years and he was terrible, then Dallas gets him and immediately moves him to guard and he becomes a pro-bowler. Maybe Brown wouldn't become a pro-bowler if moved to guard but at the very least he could be great at that position. His run-blocking is fantastic, but playing at tackle he is too slow and he always gets beat. Hopefully Arians will realize this and move him to guard where he belongs. That line you posted has potential to be very good. Massie and Jones have lots of potential and Colledge is not too shabby. The main thing is moving Brown to guard and that opens up plenty of opportunities to make a solid line. I am actually excited about this draft and season because we actually have competent people running the show for once

Easily take the BPA, it sucks that it might not be a LT since we need to improve the trenches but we simply can't reach IMO. I hope something stellar happens and the Cardinals end up getting Joeckel or Fisher somehow but I doubt that will happen. =/

Keim and Arians actually know what they are doing. I trust them. Rod Graves was Lance Blanks of the Cardinals....a straight joke. Our new FO actually knows the importance of the o-line so I would be completely shocked if they don't attack it early and often in the draft.
10 more minutes until our franchise's future is decided! Lets do it!

He is a monster. There is little to no chance that he will bust. He is as sure a bet that you can get. He would be a guaranteed top 3 pick if he played any other position with his talent. Only risk is injury and every player has that. If all three top OT's are gone we need to get Warmack. I would be fine with a trade down to get Cooper and another 2nd as well

Why did the Cardinals have to win that pointless game against Detroit at the end of the season? So annoying, Cards and Suns always ruin their draft positioning like that. It drives me nuts. We won't even have a chance at Lane Johnson now. And watch Mclemore get drafted at pick three just to rub it in some more. Arizona sports teams make me

Man oh man, I surrender. We draft Jonathan Cooper at 7 when we could have just traded down and he would still be available at 13 at least

Not too bad of a selection considering all of the tackles were already gone. I'm happy with Cooper. He's less of an injury risk and has more upside than Warmack. Way more athletic and they're both the same size.

Ya I like him a lot, I just think we should have traded down a few picks and picked up a second because he would have been available a few spots later as well. Solid pick though

We should take Geno, Warford or Minter with the next pick. We have many options available. Stupid NFL making round 2 on day 2. I hate waiting lol

Pull an Aaron Rodgers with Geno, let him develop for 2 years while we have Carson.
