The New York Yankees placed reliever Joba Chamberlain on the disabled list Thursday with a strained right oblique.
Chamberlain joins Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez,Mark Teixeira, Curtis Granderson, Kevin Youkilis,Francisco Cervelli, Ivan Nova and Michael Pineda on the disabled list.
Setup man David Robertson also went for an MRI on Thursday, but his lower left hamstring strain will not require a DL stint, and the right-hander is day to day, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said.
Cashman did not know who would be called up to replace Chamberlain, but said Triple-A righties Mark Montgomery, Preston Claiborne and Sam Demmel were under consideration.
