Officiating--Tyson/Hibbert

This is my first comment on the refs since the all-star break but here it goes(even my brother who is a notorious knick hater commented on this):

As a knick fan I really dislike the way these two are being officiated---the way I learned it is: If you contest a shot and keep your arms REALLY straight up in the air you can get away with it even if there is some body contact---but Hibbert is almost NEVER keeping his arms straight up---he always follows through and gets body compact as well....essentially, at least the way I've been taught , it's a foul....IMO Hibbert is fouling on almost every defense play....on the other hand Chandler gets the most ridiculous fouls called on box outs----I mean 2-3 fouls tonight were just completely mind boggling.

honestly when tyson picked up that 4th bs foul in the 3rd, they immediately called hibbert for that offensive foul which was the make up and that was his third.... everyone saw that coming... then george picked up 2 quick fouls... then hibbert another foul.. so its a give and take man. hibert being out of the game really helped us. gotta take the good with the bad.

We need amare to step up and get some easy buckets next game. He is key to us beating Indiana, we need him with melo struggling. If we can get some good min's out of the rest of the guys we will win next game with no problem. The Ref's are not on our side, maybe they will be better for us next game.

The refs are against us' is so weak so pls stop it. The pacers play better D and have the rep for that so like Lebron they will get the benefit of the calls. You guys sound like you are preparing to blame the refs if the Knicks lose this series. Bush league esp after a win. Go Knicks!

Are you ready for the truth? Can you handle the truth? They are controlling this game via Hib and Tyson...In game one which was obviously very crucial to the series. The refs allowed Hib to get away with nonsense. Now all of a sudden in game 5 they called fouls on Hib that they didn't call in game in 1... It is what it is...

west complains all game prob more than tyson... nba officiating is just horrible they get to get rid of all these guys cuz they all betting on games

The biggest difference is the amount of ticky tack fouls they call on the knicks compared to the pacers. George can manhandle melo out of post position but on the other end those are called fouls on tyson and melo. We also get a ton more offensive fouls called vs indiana. If JR tried that dunk that lance did, he would have been called for the foul given how blatantly he used his off arm.

Those ticky tack fouls allow indiana to get into the penalty early and lead to the huge disparity in free throws.

Hard to win games when one team is shooting 33 FTs and you only 18 FTs.

The way this "Hibbert goes straight up" is being portrayed by the media and others is really bothering me. If a guy goes straight up, and a good finisher is headed towards the rim, its a way to contest the shot without committing a foul and makes the scorer have to go above or around the defender to score.

However, when you see a guy like Melo take a ton of contact and miss the rim entirely or shoot an airball on a layup, ITS BECAUSE HE WAS FOULED!!! If Hibbert was truly "going straight up", Melo wouldn't be throwing layupsa off the side of the backboard. Hibbert's arms are going straight up but nothing else is.

My biggest issue with Hibbert isn't the "goes straight up" or even the swinging his arms downward, which on many occasions he does after he gets ball so it kinda takes away from the foul...I hate the this dude can moonwalk while jumping and get no call...Everyone else gets those fouls except this dude. I also don't see any reason why Ian Mahinmi gets so much benefit of a doubt from refs, hasn't earned that respect at all.

Well, up until last game, we were treating Mahinmi like Hibbert and double teaming him in the post. Maybe the refs just thought to follow suit

I found myself laughing last night when Reggie kept saying "They weren't calling that foul on Hibbert in Games 1 and 2."

I know, Reggie! That was the ****ing problem!

Refs seem to always give the benefit of the doubt to some players, while others they swallow there whistle. Lebron gets the benefit of the douby. Hibbert gets the benefit of the doubt. Melo does not.

it is true that hibbert jumps straight up but when he does, his damn arms are usually stretched out forward instead of straight up.

I mean the least the Knicks could do is point it out towards the refs---Hibbert ALWAYS swings his arms downward....I've yet to see a play where he does not do this...on top of that there is always some decent amount of body contact as well.......
