Reacquire Arron Afflalo

Post#1 » by Joe Berry » Wed May 22, 2013 3:59 pm

I assume the Magic will get Ben McLemore with the 2nd pick, in this case the chances of Afflalo being moved should rise significantly. Would an expiring contract (Stuckey) + a 2nd round pick(this years?) get it done?
Ohhh the irony, trading Stuckey for Afflalo... but letting AA go for almost nothing and keeping Suckey instead was one of Joe D major mistakes in the past few seasons.

Resign Calderon for 3-4 years/6-7 mil a year. A starting backcourt Calderon/Afflalo is playoff contender worthy, both great 3p shooters, good fit next to Dre/Moose...backups should be Knight + Shabazz/McCollum, any decent guard we can get out of the lottery - if they continue to develop they can take over the starting positions one day when they are ready.
I really wanted Oladipo, because at least on the defensive end a Knight/Oladipo backcourt could be top 5 backcourt some day, but well not gonna happen.
Anyway this would be a simple move to get us a decent SG, a decent backcourt for a reasonable price.

Drummond/Slava
Monroe/Jerebko/Charlie
?/Singler/Middleton
Afflalo/Shabazz
Calderon/Knight

This still leaves a huge hole at SF, the free agent market is very awful for SF. But you could go for Iggy with big money, hire a specialist like Korver, go for a solid guy like Brewer or a talent like Aminu. Still plenty of options.

This sounds weirdly familiar. I've been saying this since the end of the season. It literally makes too much sense not to happen. Orlando sheds money, we get a SG without handing out a blank check to someone one season overachiever. They save money/open up cap space more.

I think Detroit would need to include one of Singler and and a late first for Affalo. I'm not sure I want AA back but if Orlando does a striaght salary dump they don't want Stuckey. I'd personally rather have Singler right now for salary purposes. I like AA but he's not worth adding on with this roster we have. Call me crazy but he doesn't bring us what we need.

We need a starting caliber SG and thats what Afflalo is. Our primary need as someone that can be a number 1 scoring option. Sadly we aren't likely to find that in the draft or in free agency. So while Afflalo doesn't solve our biggest problem he would solve a major one.

I'm on that bandwagon too. AA has killer instinct and will fit our actual roster perfectly well with his defense and shooting ability.

Getting Afflalo back was the 1st thing I thought of when I heard the Magic got the 2nd pick . . . Makes so much sense . .

I'd rather trade anything on our roster not named Drummond or Monroe for #2.

Knight, Singler, #8 for #2 & Hedo.

I wouldn't mind Double A coming back. He's overpaid, but I'd rather overpay him than OJ Mayo. At least with AA, you know exactly what you're getting, three point shooting and solid perimeter defense.

I also like your plan because we get rid of Stuckey, and I'm not too concerned about a second round pick.

This trade also makes sense because Orlando has had a history of dealing with Detroit. The Darko to Orlando trade (which we used on Stuckey), and of course, the Grant Hill for Ben Wallace and Atkins deal.

-Don't believe Calderon is interested in coming back. He seemed more receptive to resigning with Toronto, when he was still in a Pistons jersey. He's either going back there, or hooking his wagon onto an immediate contender. I don't blame him, he's spent most of his NBA days on lottery teams.

I would love Afflalo. It will probably cost too much.

I don't wanna give up Knight/Monroe/Drummond or the 8th.

If it's as simple as Stuckey and 2nd's, then hex yes. They could have English, Middleton, Kravstov too...

Knight
Afflalo
Iguodala
Monroe
Drummond

that line-up has everything and technically could happen.
and technically it could have a good bench. :wtf?:

I agree. They were talking about Smart back in March, they want a PG.

Only one GM is (Please Use More Appropriate Word) enough to give Afflalo for a 2nd round pick and sadly he is not Orlando's GM ;)

Only way I see them passing on Burke is if Noel is available. Which will only happen if Cleveland takes Porter, which I doubt they will because they're saving cap space for LeBron so it makes no sense to draft a player at his position with the #1 pick.

I'm inclined to believe the Magic will take Burke as well, but if they did draft McLemore and make AA available I'd make a run at him. Agree giving up Monroe/Drummond/#8 is too much though, so not sure what else we could really entice them with.

If the Magic take Burke and they look to keep AA, how do people feel about Nelson off the bench?
I don't think he'll cost too much to get. He's got good range and he's better than bynum. He's only got a couple years left on his contract and he's not too old to help out.
We could probably get him for a second rounder.

Nelson's contract this year is 8.6mil per. No way I'd trade anything for him to be our backup PG at that cost. I'd much rather run Stuckey at backup PG or resign Bynum.

I was just thinking about this yesterday too. Afflalo is an elite defender and can shoot the 3. Him and Knight would be ferocious on the defensive end with Drummond holding down the paint. I would be all for this. If they want a guy like Singler then fine. I don't like Singler anyways.
