Nets to orl

Post#1 » by spearsy23 » Mon Jun 17, 2013 9:49 pm

Nets give Humphries/Taylor or brooks
Magic give glen Davis and James Nelson
Why: nets get a pf to put next to lopez who is at least starting quality though probably a worse rebounder than they'd hope, but also get a quality backup at pg.

Orlando gets out of two contracts that make absolutely no sense for them by passing them on to a team who couldn't care less about costs.

Nothing sexy and probably not what the nets are looking for but at least it's a trade that's different than everything else going around right now :D
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.

The Magic don't need gobs of cap space. What we need is assets. BBD and Meer could easily get us some young players or picks instead of an expiring contract.

And Humphries/marswag is not original. It was part of a potential Dwight trade we turned down. We can get more than this for our 2 guys. No Thankyou.

Not sure BBD and Nelson get the type of return you think they will

I'm not expecting any unprotected 1sts next year. But we may be able to pick up some young talent that a team isn't using. We didn't expect a lot in return from the JJ trade, yet now we have a potential allstar in Tobias Harris.

Pretty easy to use cap space to gain assets.

Nelson has a horrible contract and Davis is a fringe starter, what exactly are you looking to get out of them? I wouldn't see getting more than a late first + expiring and that would have to be from a team who doesn't care about the cap. Is there any team outside of the nets like that right now?

And it's the Davis as the new nets pf that's different.

From whom though? Jameer is certainly negative value at his price and Davis is neutral at best to a team that has a gaping hole at pf. Neither guy is really good for their contract and both should be #5 starters or bench players.

Like what?
I can't think of any posters in here making any trades for them other than an occasional Hump trade.

I think Tiderz is being realistic.

But...Much easier than above market multi year contracts.

Also that Reddick comparison isn't close. Reddick is(looked like a healthy, younger, better player.

I personally wouldn't do this trade for Orlando even though I don't think we could get much more value for a package of Nelson and Davis. I believe that even a rebuilding team needs to have at least a little veteran presence to serve as a good example to the younger players.

Looking at the Magic there are only three players that could possible fit that bill Afflalo, Nelson, or Davis. I think that it's almost a sure thing that Afflalo will be traded sooner rather than later which leaves Nelson or Davis. So despite his contract this coming season I'd rather hold on to Nelson for one more year. He's been a good locker room guy his whole time in Orlando and has always had a really strong work ethic that can set a good example for our younger players. Plus between him and Davis he has the better contract since it's not fully guaranteed after next season.

Yeah the Nets are in trouble. I see them having to wait until both Humpries and Wallace expire before they can do anything.
This will end badly

I was thinking more along the lines of players like Ben Gordon, Luke Walton, and Baron Davis. Where teams gave up assets to get rid of them. A lot of teams usually look to free up cap space around the draft and FA. Logic only works if ORL does not have any FA plans in the near future.

Fortunately Hump expires this year and they will use him to grab something.

Otherwise, I don't think the team that had the single biggest improvement last season is in much trouble. It's called building on that with chemistry, experience and hopefully a leader a new coach. Plus they will add a high end Euro prospect this summer (Bogdanovic), their #22 pick, continued growth from their inexperienced players (Lopez, Brooks, Teletovic, Shengelia, Taylor), and again whatever they can get for Hump and future picks (as they have all of theirs).

I'm not trying to be unrealistic with it but Humphries and marswag are not valuable assets. Jameer is on a slightly unfavorable contract, but he produces more than brooks. Davis is more capable than Humphries. The nets are in trouble because of cap space. The horrid joe Johnson and Ben Wallace contracts. Yea, they improved. About as much as they can. Although Boston is on its way out, and the Knicks stuck in cap hell as well

I'm not saying Orlando would or should do this deal, my stance has been what better offers could they get and I have yet to be presented with one despite most Orlando fans saying they could do better.

well it seems like the Magic front office have never been really high on Brooks. Getting an expiring contract in Humphries is nice and all, but Nelson is one of the few vets that I would like to see stay in a Magic uniform. Moving BBD for Humphries and Tyshawn Taylor. Taylor looked really good in the D-league and what little he did play this year he looked pretty good. Almost 50% 3pt. Both contracts are expiring contracts, so if Taylor doesn't look good, them no harm no fowl. As an added bonus Taylor played at Kansas as well.

Again, I wasn't trying to sell the BK package, I was more wondering what Orlando would expect to get for Nelson and BBD as more than one poster said they could do better...including one who said they could get them young players or picks.

Well I realize that. I am not sure how high the value is on BBD, so I don't think we'll do much better than Humphries/Taylor.
